Went Down Today

Sorry to hear this. Every time I see a cabbie pull one of their stunts, reinforces my view that they should be strung up. Speedy recovery and get back on the road soon. Hope the bike is ok.

To the OP:

Glad you survived and that you're ok.
+1 to the fact that you're probably going to be hurting and follow up medically with professionals.
Was there much damage to the bike?

careful sushi - gonna call you lil squishy ;)

Glad you're okay and the bugger got charged...gonna jack his insurance big time as a cabbie - bet he fights it

get back on that horse soon.....understandable caution around cabbies....

Thanks for the well wishes everyone. Home today. Very sore as the adrenaline has worn off, but could have been much worse. I haven't seen my bike as of yet but its in my parking garage at work and im told the damage is not that bad. Scrapes on the left side fairing and turn signal damaged I will get a better look soon. Cop was cool and did mention to me that he may fight it and I would have to appear in court if he does. Im really not sure what to do now as this is my first. Call insurance?? Mind is a little messed as everytime i close my eyes i see me going down

Definitely call your insurer and mention the circumstances. In a case, like this, there's no doubt that the other driver is at-fault both under the law, and under the rules of fault determination. Let them handle it, from this point on. Don't be surprised, if they write your bike off. If there's ANY frame damage, then it's done.

I agree with Rob. Call your insurance as soon as you are able to. Make sure you have the report number from the police to give them as they'll need that.

You may even want to take photos of your bodily injury for if and when you need to appear in court against this guy. The medical reports should be enough, but pictures won't hurt.

LOL...what do I look like to you? the fish from Nemo?
"I shall call him Squishy and he shall be mine and he shall be my Squishy. Come here,
Squishy. Come here, little Squishy. [Baby talk]---oww!"

It would also be helpful if you had other information such as.. name of the officer, police report. etc etc.. bascially the more info the better. Tell them you went to the hospital.. all that stuff.

If you're sure your injuries aren't permanent, you can get a really good one time lump settlement from the cabbie's insurer. I've been through this.

I second RetroGrouch's point here. RetroGrouch, maybe you can give him more details on how to pursue a settlement. I always regret not doing it when I had a bad accident with the other guy being charged with reckless driving.

The day of the accident I was on adrenaline and felt shaken but ok but Im a tough guy so I said "I was fine". Next day I was wrecked and in pain. I just rode it out and I didn't want to pursue the matter further because I was just not in the mood but looking back, I wish that I did.

Its one thing that the guy is found guilty, you get your bike repaired but there is still the matter of lost time and inconvenience. You were hospitalized and your beaten up a little now from the accident. Its easily going to effect you this week and maybe even the next. Time is money and as such, I would recommend you go get some compensation for that. At the least its a way to turn a negative into a positive. Maybe consult an accident lawyer or something?

As much as it sucks, you should be kind of glad you hit him and didn't end up wiping out without hitting him. If that were the case, your insurance would be going up if you made a claim. Since you hit him and he got charged, it won't.

Heal up quick.

Glad you're okay VOX. Rebuild your confidence slowly and steadily...you'll get it back in no time. After my first close call, and subsequently the first time I went down, I felt shaken too. Every time I approached a curve in the road, I took it sooooo sloooooow because I could see in my mind what had happened before. I took it very easy my first few rides, and it came back...just slowly and steadily ;)

Jeez the guy got in a little accident. Sure the other guy was at fault but there is no need to go ruining his life and subsequently increasing insurance premiums for us all.

You obviously have no idea how insurance works. I'm not talking about suing for millions.

I disagree. This careless cabbie could easily have ruined the OP's life permanently. Hopefully he will gws, after that I am with RetroGrouch and depending on physical/medical damage I would pursue this, including getting some legal advice.

Glad to hear you're okay! I've almost been hit a few times from those cab drivers, an they have almost been hit with my fist everytime!

Keep your head up an on full alert when driving through downtown! Ride safe!
