Any time that you're passing by another vehicle, there's a "point of no return" after which there's nothing you could do, to protect yourself. Anyone, who thinks otherwise, doesn't even have a rudimentary understanding of physics or biology.
Which is why I hate riding my motorcycle in the city. It's that "point of no return." Not as nimble as my scooter which I have full confidence in swerving and braking to avoid these sorts of incidents and I've had to use it numerous times on my scooter in the city.
