Great question. I'm signed up for the CFSC/CRFSC/HS in May.Anyone have tips for a guy who's about to go on his PAL & HS (Hunter Saftey) course? Other than shut the hell up and pay attention.

Figured there would be some gun posts with the LGR gone
Armalite AR30 .338 Lupua Magnum 5 x 25-56mm Premier Reticles Heritage Tactical
Remington R25 .308 (AKA: DPMS LR) 3 x 9-40 Burris Fullfield II
Remington 870 12G (Tacticooled by S&J Hardware)
Two Glock Gen III 9MM
Taurus .454 Casul Magnum revolver (6 1/2 barrel)
Bowtec Assassin Compound bow 60lbs
I'm currently looking at CQB .556 rifles most likely the H&K 416 but it's a lot considering there are so many other AR platforms.
I shoot at FRPC in Kingston but I'm moving to LFCA Meaford this summer so I'll be going to their club with 600M range which I'm looking forward to since Kingston doesn't have a "long" range.
For those of you who do deep woods camping up north, what do you carry for "bear protection"?
I recently acquired a Remington Marine Magnum 12 gauge. I also got an extra rifled barrel topped with a Leupold VX-1 1-4x20 (Burris med steel rings) in case it needs to also serve as a deer hunting tool. Very portable, and no fuss.
I've nicknamed this set-up "deer and defence":
How much shorter in overall length can you go before its considered restricted? If I needed wilderness protection I'd be carrying a much smaller shotgun than an 18" Remington 870. Not saying it's entirely inconvenient, but there are far better choices for the task.

Tricky, educate yourself on the RCMP website before posting misinformation please.
CURRENT LAW, cc S. 84(1) "prohibited weapon" (d):
If the barrel has been SHORTENED after leaving the factory "by sawing, cutting or other alteration or modification" to less than 18"/457mm, that forces the firearm into the "prohibited weapon" class.
If the barrel has been SHORTENED after leaving the factory "by sawing, cutting or other alteration or modification"
Restricted firearm* means:
a handgun that is not a prohibited firearm,
a firearm that
is not a prohibited firearm,
has a barrel less than 470 mm in length, and
is capable of discharging centre-fire ammunition in a semi-automatic manner,
a firearm that is designed or adapted to be fired when reduced to a length of less than 660 mm by folding, telescoping or otherwise, or
a firearm of any other kind that is prescribed to be a restricted firearm
The law is specifically written to prevent people from cutting their own barrels down. It's a retarded law and doesn't apply to shotguns which come out of the factory with short barrels. It also doesn't apply if you PURCHASE a factory made short barrel for your shotgun.
Pump shotguns can have any length barrel as long as the OAL is 26" (660mm)
You can't go less than 18 inches, or else it's prohibited. Don't know what mmmnaked is talking about, unless he's referring to bear mace or something along those lines
