We Know you Ride, But do you Shoot?

Great question. I'm signed up for the CFSC/CRFSC/HS in May.

If you are unfamiliar with firearms, ask the instructor to allow you to familiarize yourself with the firearms before the test ie where releases and safeties are located. Some examiners will show you where these things are and how it works during the exam. Better to know first. Also, keeping a firearm pointed in a safe direction is the most important rule - not using firearm while intoxicated. If two answers seem good, choose the best answer. Read and understand the the books and pay attention during the review. Be careful filling in the bubble answer cards that the answer bubble corresponds/aligns with the question number.

Figured there would be some gun posts with the LGR gone :)

Armalite AR30 .338 Lupua Magnum 5 x 25-56mm Premier Reticles Heritage Tactical

Remington R25 .308 (AKA: DPMS LR) 3 x 9-40 Burris Fullfield II

Remington 870 12G (Tacticooled by S&J Hardware)

Two Glock Gen III 9MM

Taurus .454 Casul Magnum revolver (6 1/2 barrel)

Bowtec Assassin Compound bow 60lbs

I'm currently looking at CQB .556 rifles most likely the H&K 416 but it's a lot considering there are so many other AR platforms.

I shoot at FRPC in Kingston but I'm moving to LFCA Meaford this summer so I'll be going to their club with 600M range which I'm looking forward to since Kingston doesn't have a "long" range.

I am purchasing my CQB off a WO from my old unit. once he returns from overseas
Not sure if you know of him but he has some great collection pieces and stuff for sale. WO Seki.
He is currently the weapons tech for the OPP at the HQ. If you're in the market for something, that's his area of expertise and I could ask him on your behalf.

omg this thread is making me drool. Got my PAL for restricted and non-restricted. Working on getting through my probation at the Aurora gun range so I can start bringing my Ruger Mark III Competion:)

I've always wanted to go hunting but I have no friends or family that is into that kind of stuff. Not something I wanna try on my own cause I wanna learn how to do everything from shooting to skinning and cutting.

Thanks promac.

Rafiki911, I'm kinda in the same boat. My friend has hunted before, but never Moose (which is what I want to hunt).

Did 2 hours worth of sidearm target practice down in Florida, i would love to own firearms, just dont see the point in owning one in Canada... just too much restrictions and legal/prohibited issues. I do however play airsoft on a weekly basis and own plenty of "uncontrolled" firearms :D if that counts for anything at least :p

For those of you who do deep woods camping up north, what do you carry for "bear protection"?
I recently acquired a Remington Marine Magnum 12 gauge. I also got an extra rifled barrel topped with a Leupold VX-1 1-4x20 (Burris med steel rings) in case it needs to also serve as a deer hunting tool. Very portable, and no fuss.

I've nicknamed this set-up "deer and defence":

How convenient is it to be carrying that around and going about your regular hike?

If I needed wilderness protection I'd be carrying a much smaller shotgun than an 18" Remington 870. Not saying it's entirely inconvenient, but there are far better choices for the task.

How much shorter in overall length can you go before its considered restricted?

I can carry that thing on my back all day, without issue. Of course I leave the rifled barrel at home.

You can't go less than 18 inches, or else it's prohibited. Don't know what mmmnaked is talking about, unless he's referring to bear mace or something along those lines

26" overall length before its classified restricted.

Tricky, educate yourself on the RCMP website before posting misinformation please.

This has been my understanding of the law,
CURRENT LAW, cc S. 84(1) "prohibited weapon" (d):
If the barrel has been SHORTENED after leaving the factory "by sawing, cutting or other alteration or modification" to less than 18"/457mm, that forces the firearm into the "prohibited weapon" class.

If the barrel has been SHORTENED after leaving the factory "by sawing, cutting or other alteration or modification"

The law is specifically written to prevent people from cutting their own barrels down. It's a retarded law and doesn't apply to shotguns which come out of the factory with short barrels. It also doesn't apply if you PURCHASE a factory made short barrel for your shotgun.

Pump shotguns can have any length barrel as long as the OAL is 26" (660mm)

Restricted firearm* means:

a handgun that is not a prohibited firearm,
a firearm that
is not a prohibited firearm,
has a barrel less than 470 mm in length, and
is capable of discharging centre-fire ammunition in a semi-automatic manner,
a firearm that is designed or adapted to be fired when reduced to a length of less than 660 mm by folding, telescoping or otherwise, or
a firearm of any other kind that is prescribed to be a restricted firearm

Wow! I didn't know you can get them that short and still be classified as non-restricted. However, I am very happy with my Marine Magnum and I don't notice the weight on my back. Personally, there's not enough barrel on that Grizzly to give me any confidence on accuracy. I also like the idea of holding 7+1 shells! :)

Right, my mistake. I've never come across a shotgun anywhere near as short as 26", that's crazy

This is false. I have 14" 870 and it is non-restricted.
