We Know you Ride, But do you Shoot?

You can put a 2 3/4 shell through a 3” gun , but you can’t go the other way.
If you buy a semi , you may find certain shells do not work well . 1oz load target shells don’t have enough zip to make some gas operated guns cycle . Sometimes the cheap target loads like Challenger are a bit inconsistent.

The break in procedure for my Beretta was to shoot full size magnum loads for a bit. It seems to eat anything now.

Can someone explain what the legal amount of shells you can have in a tube is in Canada? I've been reading some conflicting info online. Some say 5, some say 3. My gut says 5 since that's the same amount used in Rifles, but then I read that you can fit possibly 6 2 and 3/4 in a shotgun chambered for 3"

Also what's the best way of mounting a light on a shotgun that has no rail?

sorry for all the questions, again, coming from handguns it was pretty basic when i was shopping for that.

3 while hunting and 5 otherwise with the plug out

Barrel clamps with a picatinny rail or aftermarket stocks will allow a light mount for example.
5 rounds of whatever it's chambered in for a semi (centrefire), pumps can have as many rounds as you want (no limit).

Just curious since my only shooting involvement these days are clays . What do you guys do with tactical multi round shotguns , rail mounts and lights , Pumpkin killers ?
I can see the fun , just don’t know what your doin.

I have been thinking about joining the Clay's section of our local gun club because that's all that they are accepting members for. Never done it before any advice.

yup, pump action = unlimited. I've got a tube on my 890 that can hold 10 rounds. great for 3-gun, useless for everything else.

only exception is when out hunting, 2 rounds chambered max IIRC. there's something that you can put in the tube to limit your rounds when out in the bush.
forget the name of it.

yup , go and meet some of the folks , find a group that likes it safe but fun. No sense spending a ton of dough and not having fun, its 90% muscle memory and repitition , and addictive . I'm mediocre , but i shoot with some very good competitors , and its a pleasant way to burn thorugh a few boxes of shells . I'm mostly a skeet guy, on occasion sporting clays , trap shooting is actually pretty easy . Which club would be considered youir local ? Galt ?

Yes almost next door I can hear the trap shooting all night on Wednesdays and weekends

Galt has a nice setup , and a big following. Good skeet field . My home field is Hamilton gun club out by Stoney creek. I have a few friends that are members of both clubs . I don’t like to be that invested ( I’m too cheap)

I guess after reading this maybe i'd be more interested in dishing out a bit more cash. After thinking about it some more i would like a shotgun with a front rail as well as a top rail. Preferably pump but if not it isn't a deal breaker. That Stoeger is pretty cool. I didn't know there was a lot of depth to a shotgun, when i was handgun shopping it definitely wasn't this difficult - so many quality handguns and if they had a bad reputation you would know.
Sounds like you want something more tactical type. Take a look at the Winchester SXP Shadow Defender. Proven very reliable, cycle smooth and fast, has the mounts you want and often goes on sale for around $500ish.

Wife had her first shooting experience yesterday, we went on a Grouse hunt. She decided no animals were getting hurt on this hunt, so she hurt some targets and fed some birds.

Thanks for this! I see it's on sale right now here - Winchester SXP Shadow Defender Pump-Action Shotgun is this a good deal or does it get any lower?

Edit: I'm actually liking the extreme defender a little better given it has capabilities for a scope - Winchester® SXP Extreme Defender Pump-Action Shotgun | Cabela's Canada -- i appreciate the recommendation!

It’s just for plinking targets, and small game. So far so good, it wasn’t very expensive, I’m not much of a gun enthusiast, it’s just fun to have.

It’s a Savage Mark ll FVXP.
