Verizon possibly coming to CAN and the three stoogers are scared ********!!

If you think Verizon is going to be a discount service provider you're dreaming. They will be comparable to bell and rogers.

True. Isn't Virgin foreign too? I don't see any competition there

Verizon would have a huge advantage when it comes to handset costs since they can leverage their immense buying power based on their US market. They should be able to offer much better pricing on handsets, or better subsidies, even if they elect to keep their plan pricing close to what the existing Canadian providers are doing. That alone will give them a big advantage. If they can dangle cheap or free handset upgrades every 12-18 months people won't complain too much about the plan costs. The existing providers would have a hard time dealing with that since they have only a small fraction of the overall subscriber base that Verizon has.

They could use their buying power to pass on savings, so could Rogers, bell, but they choose instead to.milk us for everything, Verizon will be the same. They are in business to make as much money as possible, and will continue that here. Don't get me wrong. I would love a cell provider to come here and turn our market on its head, but I a realist, not a dreamer.

Why the derogatory tone of voice Bill? Someone piss in your cornflakes? We're having a discussion why do we have to belittle each other?

As i states already, plans have started to fall in price with the introduction of Wind and Mobilicity. I know that my plan has lowered in price. In fact anyone remember the original CityFido? Unlimited talk for 50 bucks? That was the cats meow and people were willing to pay a lot of money to buy someone out of one. You can get similar plans with data and txt for same if not less money.

Internet as well. The norm up until three years ago was 60 or 80gb bandwidth limit per month when Teksavvy and a couple other ISPs started offering unlimited or much higher limits for the same speeds and same if not less money WHILE renting copper from Bell. Instead of trying to compete Bell and Rogers first reaction was to attack and annihilate competition. When they were shut down in their attempt they conceded and raised GB limits. Their bread and butter was over-limit users. 50 bucks a month if you go above the limit. LOL that was a money maker and they hated to see it go.

Competition is good, False competition is bad. Just like everyone wrongly points out that we have Bell, Solo, Telus, Koodo, Rogers and Fido as competitors when in fact out of six, three are owned by the other three.

I guess what i'm really glad about is not the actual joining of Verizon, but the pissing and moaning like little children that Bell and Rogers do anytime their Oligarchy gets threatened, and the feeble attempts to sway publics opinion through pathetic commercials.

What derogatory tone? Were is anyone belittling anyone else? Who's Bill?

Virgin is foreign. They don't offer any great deals.

Virgin Mobile Canada was bought by Bell a few years back.
Edit: Found the Wiki post:
Virgin Mobile Canada, a wholly owned subsidiary of Bell Mobility Inc., is a provider of postpaid and prepaid wireless voice, text and data communications services throughout Canada. Launched on March 1, 2005 as a joint venture between Virgin Group and Bell Canada, Bell took sole ownership on July 1, 2009 when it closed a deal to purchase the stake it did not already own

There is only Bell and Rogers. (Not including Wind, Public Mobile, Videotron and Mobilicity)

At least we can all agrees Verizon coming to Canada, worst case is status quo. Best case cheaper rates.

Yes but nothing has changed since the purchase, which means it didn't offer any relief when it came here as a foreign company.

It didn't really come as a true foreign company though. From day 1 they were on a 50/50 or so agreement with Bell Mobility. It was just a matter of time before Branson lost interest and Bell slowly bought them out.

One thing that I find particularly annoying is the claim by the Canadian companies that Verizon will be getting a free ride in that they do not have to pay for the existing infrastructure. What BS! The Canadian companies didn't pay for it either. We did, through our subscriptions. I welcome the arrival of Verizon. I hope they hand the Canadian companies their respective ***** on a plate.

I have to agree. They may set their cost model to be slightly lower or offer more services for equal money but then Rogers/Bell will only match the offerings. I don't think we will be on par with the US service providers. Why would they take less when they can have more? As consumers we are already conditioned to pay a certain amount. Too bad there are so many sheep and so few shepherds but then again, what choice do we have?

I'm cautiously optimistic.

TbayTel was VERY aggressive in trying to take customers away from Bell and Rogers, so much so that there were GREAT incentives if you switched.

In response, Bell (through their subsidiary Virgin Mobile) offered a $50 plan to Thunder Bay residents with unlimited EVERYTHING, including features and Canada-Wide calling, with 6gb of data. Both with a contract and as a month-to-month

In 2012 Canada as a whole had 26.5 million phone users. In Q1 of 2013 Verizon had 98.9 million users. So Verizon don't have more buying power?

I don't expect huge price crashes but I know first hand what happens to Canadian pricing when big US players come into the market in other areas. Based on those numbers you could argue that Verizon have almost 4 times the buying power of Bell and Rogers combined.

I guess reading isn't your strong subject. Where did I say they don't have more buying power. I said Rogers and Bell could use their buying powers but choose to milk us. Translation for you. Bloody ell, bleeding Bell and Rogers could have lower rates but choose no to.

It just wouldn't make any sense for Verizon to come here and not offer any deals, after all, who would bother switching from their current provider if there was no incentive?

Does anyone really think they are stupid enough to spend all the money they need to spend to come here only to settle for keeping whatever customers Wind might retain? Seems pointless, doesn't it?

k that's good, but why didn't Branson insist on shaking up the market? because he wanted to make as much money as everyone else, and so will Verizon.

I'm not optimistic about any cell provider, because they are pretty much all crooks.

Don't forget the CRTC. The "hidden evil" behind the cellphone racket in Canada.
