Vacation season is upon us!

I'll be "wasting" riding time in August going to the IOM for the Manx GP.

Hoping to get to Cuba this winter. Squeeze was ready to pull the trigger and then the price went up $800, so we're in ponder mode.

Is Cuba filling up because of the orange manchild is scaring off US tourism?

Are they still serving toothpaste and sauteed-feathers for dinner at the Cuban all-inclusives?

If you vacation in Havana , since they went “commie light” , there are a lot of very good restaurants. Cuba can be ok. I’ve not stayed at a Cuban all in for years , and if we did it would not be for the food , it would be sun and crappy beer , which also works well for me .

My friends only go to Cuba and they absolutely love it. They only go to hotels built between 0-2 years prior as the service and upkeep is still good. Newer hotels also get first dibs at food / amenities and better experience overall.

Our other friends won’t go to Cuba because ‘it’s a hell hope’.

Depends on what you’re looking for I guess.

Friends just came back last night from Saint Lucia…amazing.

Other family and friends are going to DR Sunday, so we’ll see what they say in a weeks time.

I'm not a foodie. For me the resort meals were not much different from those of Mexico or the DR.

March we are doing Porto Plata for a week to shake off the winter blues. The cool kids go to Punta Cana for the white sand and wind surfing.

Wife doesn’t need to cook or clean up is vacation enough. Bocce ball on the beach with a President beer while rocking a lobster tan works for me.

As for the Euro trip, short list is Ireland, Greece, Portugal. If Ireland, I’m thinking of the Wild Atlantic Way but, never rented or driven there. Bike isn’t an option this time around.

I'm not a foodie either, but I've never been to a Cuban resort that made palatable food.

Last time I was there even the Brits were complaining.

St Lucia is nice , great beaches , low crime , but golf is retardedly expensive , restaurants are next level nuts and resorts are not cheap. And you can get the same experience for way less money . Better experiences because you can afford to do some side trips . I’ve been in St Lucia at least three times and I like it , but there are other places .

We’re doing Italy with friends this year.
Later we’ll be going to Kenya and Tanzania.
We’ve already started the shots.

That's what I heard also. They paid 8k for a week and the resort and food was great.

Last time we went to Mexico in 2024 we paid $6k. Cuba was $5.5k so we went to Mexico.

Will keep an eye out for deals but I expect it to get closer to 10k for 2025/2026 season.

Best we’ve been to down south has been Galapagos Islands, although I’d pick your diving vendor carefully. Our lead was a little too enthusiastic about getting pictures, and less about safety.

For one place resorts, Turks and Caicos was the best. Our young boys thought of it as food touring. They’d move between the free restaurants all day.

Hawaii was great as well, but we’re in a trade war.
I wonder how much of it, Oprah owns now.

If you need itinerary advice or w.e let me know. I did Tanzania in 2018.

What shots are you getting? I still need to get my shots for Africa
Ask the travel doc what you need. For Kenya I got ~ a half dozen plus a few prescriptions for diarrhea and altitude sickness. I went to dr Marvin gerson near humber hospital but that was many years ago.

Edit:
I also had Malarone.

There are travel clinics these days, no need to see your GP.

1st always check the Government of Canada advisory;

It covers places to avoid, current political unrest areas, crime, and on topic..vaccinations/medication recommendations. Some parts of Africa are big on yellow fever...as I recall proof of vaccination was a requirement to get on a plane to Seychelles and Tanzania back then. You can reference the above but off the top of my head you'll want Typhoid, Hep A&B and consider Malaria meds depending on where you're going. Heads up Malaria meds have a common side effect of making people feel ill. I'd also suggest Dukoral.

This is where we always go for our shots whenever travelling.

Hoping to do a Machu Pichu 4day hike this year.

Oh my wife did that about 10 years ago. If you need some tips or itinerary, etc. lmk

I know a lot of Canadian tour companies and TA's stopped booking Cuba a few months back because of the electrical grid problems and an overall complete absence of available food in some areas apparently - people were being fed basically thin and basic sandwiches for 3 meals a day in some cases I'd read. We sailed within sight of Cuba on our last cruise this past December and large swaths of the island were still in the dark where there should have been light.

My wife and I still favour cruising vs All-In's however as there's just so much more to do on a ship and all the ports - I like to keep busy, and floating around in a pool or sitting in a chair would bore the **** out of me, unlimited free booze or otherwise. Yeah, pool toys/water toys, meh, I still don't think I could do a week.

As for cruising, we have a deposit on a January 2024 Royal Caribbean cruise out of Florida that we'd booked before the Fuhror went full potato down south, so I'll be giving some serious thought about just walking away from that deposit if the rest of the year goes as sour as the last few weeks have. A lot of Canadians are looking for Non-US based cruise lines and MSC is coming up quite a lot in discussion as they are not USA parented whatsoever - a lot of mixed reviews on their ships, but honestly, a cruise is what you choose to make of it in many cases, so if things stay sour in the USA, we'll fly overseas somewhere and give them a shot. If they're smart, they'll launch some 10-15 day cruises out of eastern Canada that just skip the USA entirely.

In related news, my wife and I are still at a loss about what to do with our 2 weeks this year now. The discussion of going out to BC and spending it there however has come up a few times however. Found out today in another "Canadians looking for Canadian things to do" thread elsewhere that BC Ferries runs 3-5 day cruises up the BC coast - whoda thunk it. Not quite sure that'll be our bag (it's a lot different than a traditional cruise), but it's something to keep in mind. We might just rent a motorcycle or something and tour, or rent a motorhome and wander, who knows. If we do opt for BC, I do want to get out to Haida Gwaii however, it's been a bucket list location for a long time, and I'd like to get some tattoo work done by a Haida first nations artist out there.
