Used bike buying help?

Great bikes but none of which are for me, I may not know much about buying a used bike but I've ridden big ones and a smaller bike will just be a waste of my time/money.

hes already tossing me a deal and gave me the VIN, i don't wanna be a pushover and bug him for it, but yeah I read that the seller is legally responsible to present it to buyers.

LOL. You said it yourself - "legally responsible to present".

Most MTO offices nowadays have after 5pm hours and also open on saturdays. If the seller is that lazy to get the UVIP for you, I hate to imagine how much other stuff he'd been lazy to get around to... like maintenance on an almost-20-year bike.

How old are you?
Seriously, insurance is insane!

If you really want full size look at the fz650 or even. The gs500. Much cheaper to run.
I have a buddy who just got a 250 and he is pushing 40.. Learn, save money then sell and get what you want.
Another buddy got a 99 gsxr600. And has had lots of headaches with it.
In the end, you get what you pay for.

43,000km's, were you planning on painting it? http://ontario.kijiji.ca/c-cars-veh...s-1996-Kawasaki-zx9r-Ninja-W0QQAdIdZ466514832

From what I've read, those generations of ZX-9's were not great handling bikes. Paint usually means crash damage, and honestly $3k for it is a spring price. The '98-on ZX-9 was a lot better.

If you were going to get a ZX-9, this one is way better for an extra $1200:

This was also a much better bike than the '94-97 ZX-9: http://ontario.kijiji.ca/c-cars-veh...rt-bikes-1997-Yamaha-YZF-R-W0QQAdIdZ462240506

I'd strongly advise looking at a smaller first bike. Even something like a Ninja 650, FZ6, SV650... these are way better ideas for a first time rider.

Sounds like great advice, greatly appreciated.

Thanks very much, I have seen those bikes and contacted the owners but have yet to hear a reply. I will hold off on the current grey zx9r due to the advice on this thread. But if I get a UVIP and theres nothing wrong with the bike I don't see whynot.

Yeah I was really seeing how it was painted grey, probably had a drop maybe a crash, it did have a mark on the side fairing. When I checked out the bike it looked nice.

I can't seem to find a 600cc bike at my price range though, would be interested.

PM me if you wanna talk about it, very interested!

TRFB - The fact that you haven't got a UVIP from your sellers means nothing, legally he has to, don't give this new buyer the sense that it isn't necessary.

OP - you are obviously eager to buy your first bike, it happens to all of us man. Best advice i can give you is... stop. The sell is shady, that is the reason the guy won't provide a UVIP and wants you to go to his mechanic.

3000 for that Bike is over priced so there is no deal. This is your money man, don't waste it on a money pit just because you are dying to buy a bike and ride.

Listen to this man, someone with some common sense.

That $3k for that bike isn't a deal at all.

For around 3-4k you could pick up a 2004/2005 600ss if you're that eager to start on a bigger bike.

A 1996 zx9r is a pig at 480 lbs!

And power isn't far off from modern 600s, and a 2004 up 750 has more power then your prehistoric zx9r.

My advice DONT DO IT!

My mouth actually just fell to the ground. That's insane! Big bikes are never worth it to start on. That and if I recall zx9's aren't the lightest thing out there...

If I wanted a 600 SS when I started then I would have been paying about $15000/year for liability only... Onterrible insurance is a scam.

I would save up a bit more cash, the difference on what you can get from 3k to 4k is huge.

Yeah I am really considering that, but as a first bike I am not looking to spend alot of cash, my limit really was 3k but might just wait a bit and spend 4k to get a better bike.

Older bikes being carborated rather than fuel injected makes a difference too but none the less I am just looking for a fairly cheap high powered bike.

Will be looking at 600's now however I can't seem to find any in my price range. Please remember the listed price isn't the final price, registering the bike cost money too and I can't afford to spend 5k after registering the bike.

Still waiting to hear your answer about insurance and your age, I think everyone is under the impression that you are young, and going to end up buying a bike before you check on insurance and then take it in the *** sideways.

maybe he doesn't want to answer because It is no ones business ...I guess

A zx-9 is not a first bike no matter how old you are- it is big, heavy and really freakin fast and slightly unpredictable! they do have good handling though. If you are set on ninjas- really can't blame you! get a 750- best handling bike ever made, but again crazy crazy fast! there are about 6 on kijiji right now, and insurance is decent but far more than a standard bike like a zx-750 or a 500- really save another 900$ and buy a brand new 250! really for a first bike stay away from carbs, get the newest bike possible in your price range, and remember you most likely will dump it at some point, and it will most likely be in your driveway!

Big heavy and poor handling wtf why buy an ancient tank and store it? When you are ready to ride a much newer bike will be in your price range. Every year you wait the used bikes get one year newer and trust me a new 600 will eat that old tank for breakfast straight line or in the twisties.

Any bike from that era isn't competitive with a current 600, but... I do have a thing for those '90s bikes.

Just that the first gen ZX-9 isn't a very good one.... the Thunderace, Fireblade, GSX-R 1100 and the later ZX-9's were better.

Now, are any of those bikes good starter bikes... lol no. For a budget of $3k there are some nice first gen SV650's on kijiji, those would be way better.
