Two nights camping in Pennsylvania at Ole Bull State Park

You were not too far from the Kinzua bridge collapse, the Austin Dam collapse and the Centralia ghost town. Maybe next time.

My mom asked me how is it even fun to go alone. My response to her was I can't think of the last time I was able to sleep/wake up whenever I wanted, eat whatever/whenever, go wherever I wanted without worrying about getting there at a certain time. From the moment I left the house, it was a freedom I haven't felt in a long time. I had lunch at 3pm, ate beef jerky for dinner. On day 3 as I rode out into cell coverage, a message immediately popped up from my wife asking when I'll be home. Knowing she had to care for the kids by herself the past few days I decided Day 3 wasn't a "freedom" day and cancelled the Kinzua stop and beelined it home. Plus my ass was really hurting from the long riding days.

Don't get me wrong, it's a lot of fun to travel with a group but there's just something about travelling alone on your own terms. That feeling is amplified when there's no cell coverage at camp.

I completely forgot about Centralia... next time for sure.

I think of it more as freedom.
Be honest how many times a day do you "check" your phone.
You know how many times a day I check my phone?
Not sure what 'check' your phone even means. I use it to respond to people contacting me, or to see what friends/family are up to (travel, life events, etc), or engage with the community on here.

What's the alternative? Call you and ask to come over to see your photos from Iceland? Wait till I get home and send you an email from the PC? I can't imagine how much time has been saved and put towards furthering other things in my life.

Then there's the professional side; contacting staff/students throughout the day. Being able to call emergency services immediately for injured students instead of looking for a payphone. Capturing memories instantly and sharing them to anyone who cares.

I'm good.

I've gotta do PA at some point!

Same. One of these days...someday.

Just go. Do it. Life is short. PA is close. Check out motorcycleroads.com and plot a few good rides and do it.

Kinzua bridge is awesome. If you don't like heights, perhaps less so, but still doable lol.

I'm super lucky that the 2 friends I travel with regularly are so easy to get along with. We're all on the same page 99.9999% of the time, and that tiny fraction of the time we're not, we find a solution in seconds with no drama. It's always a pleasure.

Yeah, I ride solo sometimes, my last night coming back from WV was solo. The only thing that changes is that I ride a lot farther between stops, sometimes 3-4 hours. But I do miss the company in the end.

I do however understand the whole big group of random people thing where it turns into herding cats and tensions flare when not everyones plans or expectations jive with each other. That can be stressful.

You just have to find your tribe.

I think of it more as freedom.

My phone is an extension of of many things and I don't consider it a "Ball and chain" like some do. I had lunch at a Costco today and an odler fellow came up and asked to share my table with me, sat down, and immediately commented about how he doesn't have a phone because of the "ball and chain" thing. I asked him if he read newspapers and he said "Yeah, good old fashioned like that!". I flipped my screen around and showed him that I was actually reading the newspaper. He didn't quite know what to make of that.

And yeah, as someone else mentioned, being able to keep in touch with friends and family and see pics of their kids, their adventures, their vacations at times when we can't get together because of time or distance, well, side bonus. Some people come home and do that sort of stuff on their desktop or laptop at the end of the day, but doing it on your cellphone is no different.

Did you do like I did and jump on the glass panel??

Yeah, I didn't go near that ****. 😆

I've had a door pop open while flying a Cessna 172 and looked straight down at the ground from 1000 feet. Being strapped into a seat that didn't bother me a bit. But put me on a ladder 8 feet up to put up Christmas lights, or on some ******** like a glass floor and I turn into a wreck lol.

It took me a lot to just get to the edge of the rail at the end of the trestle for photos. And don't even get me started about making the mistake of looking down while walking along the length of it and realizing you can see through the cracks...straight down.

The phone: You and @Evoex must be in the minority. Constantly see people walking, phone out neck bent to the screen. Same most times I see people sitting anywhere.
No thanks I'm good too.

Willing to share your route? We're looking to take in MidOhio next year for their Vintage bike show. (Think Paris on steroids I'm told)

Have found gpx files. My routes include starting / ending point addresses and addresses of friends we stayed with on the way down and back.

I need to edit these out before sending. Tyre, the mapping program I use, is advising their program is not working properly and they are working on a fix. I'll post these when I can access the routes and remove personal info.

Just curious what device you use to access GTAM on, and what else you use it for?

I'm on a Mac. In the morning I'll check email, news and this site. After that I'm pretty much done for the day.

And lots of us are on different devices, just doing many of those same things, sometimes just spread out through the day.

And a lot of us use devices are integral parts of our job now as well, be it for simply getting from A to B, or replacing the need to use other people’s phones for personal calls etc.

Don't get me wrong I understand that phones are handy useful devices used by many just as they were intended. I also know that a lot of money and brain power goes into the algorithms that are meant to keep you "hooked"on the phone through various apps.
I would not consider myself very strong willed and can see myself getting sucked in easily. As long as I don't NEED a smartphone I'll just pass.
