To sellers of Bikes

Please use more tact when describing the bikes that you are trying to sell on Kijji or Auto Trader.

I have been shopping for a new ride lately and can't believe the number of sellers that won't disclose the important details of their bikes. I run out of interest if you won't provide a phone number to talk to you.

Also, pics are important. No night shots please and try to get all angles of the bike. It's still a buyers market at this time of the year and buyers will not be interested if you hide certain flaws from the camera.

Tip: if the seller is too stupid to write a decent ad, and cannot be bothered to take decent pics, ignore the ad. It's a symptom of bad judgment and laziness that likely means the bike was abused. There is a lot of junk on Kijiji, it was much better when Autotrader used to charge for ads, because you got serious sellers.

buyer's market? Lol, welcome to toronto. Most don't have a clue of what the value of their bike actually is.

The GTA doesn't have a clue about the value of anything. This is where people take on massive mortgages for condos the size of my garage, and eat in restaurants where $1.20 of pasta and a $12 bottle of wine translates to a $250 bill. Dooshes lose all sense or perspective, especially when spending credit card money.

Doesn't matter what the ad says, the price of the bike is whatever someone is willing to pay, and no more. In Canada, bikes are toys for most.
I like the ads that say, "all it needs is [some small thing] to certify".

Everything is "mint", and nothing has ever been dropped. If it has been obviously dropped, it's just on the driveway.
#1 reason to sell bike (why do people think they need to justify a reason?): "no time to ride".

I never put my phone number in the ad due to the number of idiots on kijiji - if that's a deal breaker then so be it. I'd much rather do an initial email ********* filter before offering my phone number to the world.

Actually, serious buyers will call. Kijidiots spend all day emailing low balls and "iz it still fer sail?" People are less likely to waste your time on the phone.

Of course don't ignore emails either. I can't hear on the phone so I only emailed with the seller. He never heard my voice until I was there to buy the bike, money order in hand.

The whole buy sell experience is turning into a nightmare with problems on both sides of the coin in my experience. Sellers can be particularly annoying when they don't respond to inquires or respond without addressing straightforward questions. I also find that responses are seldom prompt and conversation (by e-mail) can take days. If you are selling, it behooves you to put some effort into it

Buyers or more accurately time wasters can really be annoying, failing to fully read the ad., insisting on challenging conditions clearly expressed and my personal favourite not sticking to an appointed time for viewing and or not turning up at all with no contact or apology.

As mentioned, when ads had to be paid for the whole experience seemed to go much better.

You'd think so, but that's not the case anymore. Whenever I post something on Kijiji, I get a bunch of adjots asking for my number. They then call and offer a stupid price or make some stupid request (can you drop it off to Oshawa...) I guess the theory is if they talk to you, you're more likely to accept whatever stupidness they're asking for instead of just deleting the email.

Email is quicker and easier to weed out the time wasters, I never give out my number now unless I've come to some agreement with the buyer.

On the other side of the coin, I can't stand "RIGHT NOW" buyers around the holidays. I had to deal with one of these tards while selling my DSLR, agreed on a price, HAD TO MEET ME "RIIGHT NOW" showed up with $200 under the agreed price cause he thought I'd cave.

"Bro. I'll give you (insert lowball dollar figure here)...CASH.."

Please tell me you made a huge scene in a public place or belittled him until he cried. I probably would have exploded.

i love the dumb "CASH" offers, always good for a laugh and most of them wont even have the cash anyway..but when i sold my harley i was getting some dumb offers of people begging me to finance them because they have bad credit and their wife took them for everything they have etc.. ya im really going to finance a stranger, especially on something impossible to collect on with no collateral and with horrible credit history.

i finally edited my ad to include im not a bank if you dont have cash dont bother....or something along those lines.
it sold within a week or so of listing it, delayed because the battery died, the wall plug i had the charger plugged into for storage was turned off from inside the house....wish i kept that bike.

I called him a piece of **** straight to his face and left.

Far better to just get up and walk away, without saying a word.

As above, having been a professional salesman for a decade, I can smile and walk away, hit the close button on the garage door or just leave the table. Life's to short for kijidiots.
