To be masked or not to be masked

Just made a quick trip to Home Hardware. 90% of the customers had a mask, probably only 20% of the staff had one though.

Also weird they took down all the plexiglass between you and the cashier. Seems like such a simple thing to leave up and provide some protection.
I think the big difference is, the customer wears it for 5-10 minutes, the staff has to wear it for 7-8 hours, every day

We’re about 50-50 here at work today.

100% compliant at work.
same but it is no longer required here. It was nice to walk around the mostly empty office without a mask on though.

I'm pretty sure the wife's work still has the mandate, but they've been supplying masks and weekly testing for those coming in, all along.

“"My child was told by the provincial government it was safe to no longer wear a mask in most settings. The school board has no right to tell us otherwise," she added.”

Lol. So NOW the government who you had NO USE for, and b*tched and moaned about for the past 24 months suddenly knows best. It’s like magic.

I'll be masking for a good while yet. As grocery stores reduce their mandates I can see myself shopping early AM. Restaurants can close forever as far as I care as they are impossible to control at the best of times.

The dumb yo-yo part is that it's like people think it's over. Then the next wave comes and they will be complaining.

International travel is all over the place on regs with many forecasting too far in advance. Heat is Covid's enemy but if you're planning to visit the southern hemisphere keep in mind they're getting cooler.

Was at a Service Ontario location, all the staff were masked and out of the 25 folk in the line-up, 23 wore masks and most tried to maintain distance.
Apart from assumed deduction or situational observation, there is no dedicated scientific study that I am aware of, to disprove the protection afforded by masks.
It is telling that many of the health authority people have said that they will continue to wear masks especially when indoors and with a lot of people.
I plan on following suit.
As I read elsewhere, "underwear is not compulsory, will you go out without?"

So...first day back to school with the new protocols...surprisingly, I only had 2-3 kids who actively wore their masks all day...most of the intermediate students (grade 7 & 8) wore them, which was also a surprise...I'd say about 75% of staff (including myself) wore one...the kids were extremely happy that they could play with friends in other classes, and not just our own class...they still sanitized/washed (and in fact, grabbed the bottle of sanitizer for me when we went to gym - I have them trained well LMAO) and respected each other's personal space...no bullying or shaming those that chose to wear one either...we shall see in two weeks when numbers start to rise if this was a good decision...

I went up to Blue Mountain yesterday and it was great to be able to ski without a mask for the first time this year! Actually got a bit of a goggle tan. I've had to wear a mask all season while working outside at a ski hill. The last couple of weeks we have needed to remind almost everyone to pull up their mask while in the line or on the chairlift, despite the abundance of signs telling them masks were mandatory. The worst offenders were the kids on the school trips, so it seems that many of them were done with mask mandates as well.

I'm fully vaccinated and welcome the choice to remove my mask. Should others wish to continue, that's their prerogative.

Gotta tell you, pulling(or pushing) the kids on the flats at the bottom in slushy/spring snow and having to put it up while im out of breathe in the line up was a test of waterboarding ahahah (aka i was getting pretty sweaty) but otherwise, during all of winter, it's just normal for me to have some sort of face covering against the cold. My son had a balaclava on all the time so that was a no brainer (couldn't trust him with a buff on)

But the kids had a blast skiing in their sweaters for the first time on that day so it was worth it in the end! I'm ready for summer now but can't wait to get back on the hill with them next year :)

I’ll be trying to get my kid skiing next year. 5 years old and it’s time to get into it.

Dad will also try it as I’ve been snowboarding forever, but since my operation 7 years ago I haven’t been on anything.

Time to get back into it.

Where do I buy used kids ski equipment? May be better to rent the first season.

Kijiji (or even fb marketplace) at that age there are always barely used skis for sale, especially in ontario.

I bought mine brand new from decathlon for about $120 with bindings incl... but you can get used ones for up to half that price if you look well enough. I think some stores have those "take back your old skis after a season for %50 of their value" type of deal...mayyybe sporting life? I don't know really but i've heard that they exist.

Also some rental shops at ski hills (or around them) will sell their old stock at the end of the season, could get yourself a pair or the kiddo.

Don't feel rushed if kiddo isn't ready, i think i didnt start till i was 7-8 y old and i still ski 27 years later.

I can’t find the reference to this (I think posted by @Wingboy) so I’ll just leave this here…

It wasn't no "Flemming Drive". It's when they start torching news vans that you need to start worrying.

Thanks @LePhillou appreciate that.

After my other thread about kids sports we signed the lil guy up for soccer with ‘Little Kickers’ and he starts swimming lessons in April.

Swimming lessons are invaluable.
Less a sport and more a life skill as far as I’m concerned.
I started my daughter in soccer when she was 3 - she didn’t like it...I probably should have waited. Turns out she prefers individual sports...skating,swimming, karate etc.
