Tire installation

Hi all, which are the reasonable and fair new tire installation shops in the GTA and do you pay for each tire separate or is it a common price for both tires? Tires in question would be a 120 / 17 front, 160/ 17 rear, sport touring tires, thx

I bet it's about 80 buck per hour. Pull the wheels, clean them and just take them in, that will save you some coin.

Am being quoted 140 per tire installation, so it’s 280 including tax
Ouch that's outrageous, you must be taking the whole bike in.

That's gotta be with bringing the whole bike into the shop and having them pull the wheels off... Which I can understand, depending on the bike.

Yes. He's still working through Covid19

No idea I'm cheap, I'd say thank you very much, hang up the phone and go change them myself using the tire irons I bought when I was a teenager.
... if you end up buying irons get the ones that are at least 16 inches long.

You do sport bike tires with irons?
Sure I could do it, but Ted won't scratch my rim.
Using irons I will scratch for sure

Last time I had a BMW mag rim tire changed they didn't mark the rim, but I'm pretty sure they bent it :| ymmv.

Oh and yes, lots of people do change tires with irons. You can use a chunk of recycled plastic to protect the rim from damage.
I do my own tractor tires too, those are a *****

Agreed, changing them yourself fairly easy once you get the knack.

The secret is really getting them nice and warm and well lubed (I won't make any recommendations as people have as many opinions about tire lube as they do about oil).

Just make sure the bead on the opposite side is pressed well into the valley on the rim and you don't even need to use a tire iron. It will work over the rim by hand.

$140 a rim is insane, even if they are removing the wheels for you.

Yeah. I can change my own tires. But on my street bike. I won't

Where's Reciprocity when ya need him? That boy could swap a tire by hand like I've never seen.

Just in general, when I read 'looking for' posts (anywhere, including here), what makes someone feel the pricing is unreasonable that is being charged at x business?
