Tire installation

Speaking of hacks I mounted the tires on Abigails R3 with a hook knife to remove and zip ties to put on ?

I can see smaller dimensioned tires being more easily installed using simpler tools.
Spoons, zip ties etc. ..

It's when you're changing larger, heavier, stiffer side wall donuts that a machine or fixture comes in really handy

I thought so too but then I had to change a wheelbarrow tire and it actually seems to be the other way, if the tire has a huge diameter it seems easier to stretch on imho. I did hear recently that a Trail Wing is particularly difficult to tube because of sidewall stiffness ymmv.
the machine is super handy period ;)

Back in the day, we had 30-40 tires to change.
My friend came with the bright zip tie method.

He changed a total of 0 tires

Anyone ever watch a veteran ISDT competitor change a tire? That is how it's done!

Actually the front tire was still a b****

I used to install tires myself using the same kind of mounting system pictured on pg#2.
Dunlops for Harleys are no joke and a pain in the ***
When we found out we could get them done for $30 each it was a no brainier.
Beads are new to me as this is only the second set I've used them on.
The first set I used them on I got 41,700km out of them.
Did the beads have anything to do with those KMS?
Who knows....it hard to argue with those numbers though.
But I'm sure there's some self proclaimed expert on here to tell me different.

I bought one of these a while ago... It's almost paid for itself in money saved on tire mounting. It's more than paid for itself in the convenience of NOT having pull wheels and bring them to a shop.

Paired with a static balancer and a selection of wheel weights... Changing tires is a pleasant way to spend a rainy afternoon in the garage.

I have a similar setup. I have the eBay tire changer and I use the head off a tire changer machine attached to a bar. Works amazing. Swap a tire in 15 minutes. Save tons and like you said, the convenience is priceless.

The technology seems dodgy at best.

I don't know if it's "technology" or voodoo... There seem to be as many people who scoff at the practice of using beads as those who swear by it.
It would be great if it worked as well as some claim, but all I see are anecdotal testimonials from balance bead fan-boys and "Sham-Wow-esque" sales pitches from those selling the product.

I should have paid better attention in physics class.

One thought though... I don't believe the beads do any harm so.. What if one were to balance their wheels conventionally using weights, but then also add beads..?
I'm thinking for guys like me who do their own tire changes and static balance, it "might" result in a better balance...?
I mean static balancing has served me well enough, but if I was "off" a bit with my weights the beads could/might take up the slack and I'd have a much closer to perfect balance...

Just spit-ballin'

They have been using wheel balance rings on truck wheels for about a hundred years.
