Thursday Aug 8 TMP?

I really hate that turn
Hope you're ok that looked like a nasty highside

Other than a minor bruise on the hip, not a scratch on me :)

Judging by your hand/arm position you wern't off the bike. Then you jerked on the gas. Looks like a common-or-garden highside to me.

I'm always off the bike, a lot! It was the damn water, and I was already on the gas, so.... Here's the puddle, I actually saw it and had time to think "f***, I'm gonna hit it":

I can vouch for the water, there was a few standing puddles, sadly he found one of them... With slicks it doesn't take much to wash out

My first track day ever and it was decent fun.. I was on the silver/blk 1000rr in beginners and later intermediate.. there were some guys in intermediate who were slower than the beginners group. I managed a 1'29 on q3s with over 6k on em!

Wow looks like you guys lucked out with the weather. I had to settle for a spirited street ride.

Oops, sorry about that Corsara. Glad you weren't hurt and that you got to continue.

I think I may stick with street tires for track days...or else not go out in the damp at all! Problem with TMP is that it does get puddly.

I guess it's back on me to post a 1:23 then. Shock is out for service but I am targeting TMP August 24. Rear Q2 is looking a little shagged, but I am hoping that it has one more day in it. I guess it is a bad idea to flip these street tires?

My buddy and I left, got into Cayuga and it went from spitting to full down pour in less than 30 seconds. So glad I didn't ride to and from!

On no! Glad you are ok, that looked worse on the camera than what you came away with injury wise.

Good to hear you and your bike weren't too messed up. I really do think this speaks clearly to the importance of sighting laps though, especially at a dodgy track like TMP. First three or four laps im looking where the cones are and which ones I should ignore, where has there been dirt tossed onto the track (at TMP there is always some) where is there standing water, etc.etc. After you have 'created' a map in your head of all the hazards, then you can start putting some laps in. Obviously this is just a suggestion, but probably would have saved you from your spill.

Alright then. Judging by your arm position you wern't anywhere enough off the bike for a tight corner like that. You'd already done a lap so were aware of the water. You saw the water. You had time to think "f***....". You knew you were going to hit the water. You still got on the gas.

Don't blame the water. I ploughed thru one of the puddles in turn 1 and got a bit sideways. I would NOT be blaming the water if I'd crashed. I wouldn't even had blamed the guy at pit out who told me he'd removed the puddles and they were "just damp patches". Blaming the water does nothing to fix your riding deficiencies. And this comes from a guy who very nearly crashed first session out.

Looks like the ball is still in my hands---I'm going to TMP on Thursday August 22 :D

I know, right? I honestly thought I was fighting the bike for much longer as I had time to think about so many things during the process of crashing. Then I saw the video and was surprised how quickly it happened, lol! No injuries, but few minor tears (the joe rocket logo was torn, haha) on the leathers though, nothing worth fretting about.

I did a sighting lap, decided it's good and started hitting it on the second lap...which I didn't complete, lol. I should know better from now on, I think the whole first session should be dedicated to exploration. Every mistake is a lesson :)

I agree with you regarding blaming the water. It was my mistake, because first I failed to remember where the puddle is, second I was naive and fooled by my experience at the previous trackday there, when I hit puddles a few times in Turn 1, and even though the rear gave, I didn't crash.

As for the hanging off---let's agree to disagree. It is true that my hands seem perpendicular to the bars, but that's how they almost always look (I just reviewed some more footage). However, I'm more than a cheek off the bike, my head is very low and over and even further out of the handlebar. Very often to keep myself in check, I tap with the elbow of my outside hand over the tank, just to check it's resting in the right place and loose. I actually pay a lot of attention on body position and even exaggerate it, and feel extremely uncomfortable if I'm not hanging off.

Ooh, ooh, maybe I can do that day too and we can go "head to head" and compare lap times each session. That would be fun! Kinda like racing but without the passing on track. Our times are so close at the moment that it should be a fair fight. I've got the psychological upper hand for having not crashed recently, while you have...you know...about twice the horsepower. :D Not a big advantage at TMP but you can dust me on the straight for jollies.

+1, I like that! Try to make it on Thursday! But I have some bad news for you, my friend---I'm not psychologically scarred any :) In fact, I was hitting it way too brave afterwards for the number of bikes that were on the track (in Intermediate anyway).

Did you get into the teens? If not I don't think you have any right to judge how he was riding

Hey bud, thanks for defending me, but I know Fiery254 from before---he's helped me before and I think he's a very experienced and fast rider. His observations, if based only on the video, are valid. In reality, I always hang off the bike.

What sort of suspension are you guys running on to try for these lower times? I think we've been through this, but I forget, and it's GTAM so I'm not going to do a search. LOL

I'm happy to take your word for it. Your hands look straight, or should I say straighter than mine. But everyone rides differently. And I'm not really having a go at you personally. But a crash usually starts with the operator. If you'd seriously blamed the water 100% then you'd be a bit silly. but you're not and that's good.

WTF has that got to do with anything? Someone who does a 1.20.01 has no right to say anything, but a 1.19.99 has every right? Give your head a shake will ya?

My best yesterday was a 1.21. I also ran off at 7 and nearly crashed. I hit 2 different apexes and nearly crashed. I also ran off at 6. My previous best at TMP was a 1.20. I was disappointed with my own riding yesterday. But that's for me to think about and deal with.

I was maybe 14ft behind you when you went off, I can comment as i saw your body position. Also being critical isn't called for. Comment, offer suggestions etc but don't be a douche about it

I have springs for my weight in the front, and 10w fresh oil. No revalve or fancy cartridges. Rear is a stock shock, which was never ever rebuilt. Soon to be replaced by an Elka from a fellow guy here on the forum I hope.
