so the townsfolk voted 60% no
council votes 8-1 yes
I see democracy is bought and paid for thoroughly in those parts
Well, the article Lightcycle posted tells the story of why this was the outcome. The citizens didn't want it to happen. Honestly, city council probably didn't either. But like I said earlier in this thread, people are going to come anyways. You can't cancel Sturgis anymore than you could cancel Friday the 13'th here in Ontario - people WILL come regardless.
So, there was only real option - accept that inevitability, and prepare.
If council had just decided to say no, well, hundreds of thousands of people are showing up anyways. Then they'd all be pissing everywhere in the streets, crapping behind buildings, overrunning local food joints (because the vendors wouldn't be there offering street food), there'd be no security leading to all sorts of issues there, no sanitation, and basically it would be a epic clusterfuck.
This was a "rock and a hard place" situation. I think the decision they made in the end was the right one.
Now, on another topic, again from that article, we have dolts like this:
."I'm not worried about it at all -- we're from California where you gotta wear masks everywhere you go," Gary Miller said. "So it's honestly refreshing coming out and not having to worry about it."
These dumbasses are going to spread the covid they brought to Sturgis and spread it, or pickup the Covid someone else brought and bring it back to California.
These people just do NOT get it.
