There be Pirates !

South Dakota never locked down. It might be interesting to see how well they do against similar States that did lock down.

South Dakota is sparsely populated - whole population of the state is less than 900,000 people. Rapid City population 75,000; Sioux Falls pop 180,000. It has none of the densely packed urban centres that are conducive to rapid spread of an infectious disease (e.g. New York City). From that point of view, their situation of never having locked down is probably justified ... for now.

Other western farming states without huge cities in them - Wyoming, Montana, North Dakota - are in basically the same situation.

Iowa, Nebraska, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Colorado each contain at least one big city, and they're somewhat worse off, although nothing like the northeast or south.

Sport bike guys poke fun all the time at the Pirate costume HD riders. I don’t get it.
What about the pirate Honda VTX riders?
Hey street Rossi do you really think you look any less ridiculous walking In stiff riding boots down a beach or sidewalks in your one piece leathers with the jacket tied around your waist and your helmet in hand.

I personally couldn't care less what someone wears when they're riding.

I also couldn't care less *what* you're riding if you're not a dick about it. I rib, and I've been ribbed. It's all good.

It's all the same wind.

It's your attitude that counts.

So many are in the high risk category too, what a mess.
What's the next big motorcycle rally?

I told you that one guy looked sick ? he's probably going to Laconia too

Had to stop on the way home and get a V-Rod back on it’s wheels for a woman. I wish someone had have told me they’re 670 lbs. Back no likey.

I actually kinda like the V-Rod. Its no XR 750, but they’re ok. 670 lbs. though? Jesus. I can see why Buell said nope and went with Rotax.

Was Buell's motor, designed by Porsche. Then HD decided they wanted a liquid cool cruiser and slapped on 70 pounds of dead metal to the motor so it would look better in a cruiser. Buell decided they couldn't use it at all anymore in their sport bikes due to the stupid weight.

But, the only HD I would even be slightly interested in is the 2006 V-Rod Night Rod - the only one ever produced (1 year only) with mid controls.

As for stupid weight - on the Cherohala Skyway a couple years ago. Stopped for road work. Group of HD's roll up behind us... a few seconds later I hear a woman screaming for help. Literally screaming. I was already off my bike, so I hustled to help (the rest of her crew didn't move off their bikes). The corner we were stopped in was banked to the left, she was very short and when she went to put both her feet down she started falling over to the left. I grabbed the bike to keep it from falling completely over on her (she was already off balance and in an awkward position) and felt something in the lower right side of my back go "pop" - didn't hurt, so no big deal... was fine until about 6 hours later.. could barely walk the next day. Good it was a "drive the truck to the next stop of our trip" day.
When I teach, people are shocked at the weight of 300's if they've never ridden before.. and they were all ready to buy a Road King or Street Glide as a starter bike.

Back on topic, looks like only a small drop in attendees at Sturgess - 10% or so.

I can attest that a 600+ pound bike highsides pretty much like a 300+ bike, it just comes down harder. That, and they don't make them like they used to. My '84 Magna cost ~$100 to repair afterwards. The right peg was crushed to half it's width, and the tachometer cracked.

Everybody knew this was going to be the case, including the people who went there. You can count on the media to make it sound a lot worse than it is.
Yup. I'm going to go get myself some covid, maybe spread it around and I don't care. What's important is I had a good time!

Read the article. They reported the current stats, identified 2 businesses where a patron and an employee tested positive with time stamp, and predicted there will be more cases because of the asymptomatic spread of the virus. That's "making it sound a lot worse than it is"?

In the US I'm not sure whether a rally presents much more of a danger than every day life. It's raging everywhere, at some point it doesn't really matter where you are. Is there really a difference between lunching at a packed Denny's in Baton Rouge or swilling Coors at a Sturgis bar? Engage in risky activity you're upping the chance of infection.
