What we are seeing is a global village. People keep bringing up christmas as if you have to believe in some stupid ******** fairy tale to be Canadian. I think every time I see merry christmas, that it is showing everyone just how ******* stupid most people are. With that said, I live in Brampton, which most people know has A LOT of south Asians. Guess what all the busses say on them around Christmas..... that's right, they say merry christmas.

Canadian culture is what we make it. I love seeing the Highland uniforms with the kilts, or the queen of a distant land on my money, or going down to the corner store for some great curry or Hakka.

Instead of trying to hold on to something that doesn't exist, how about we concentrate on all the great stuff that immigrants have brought to this foreign land.

Bitching, complaining... don't even get me started on the free hand outs. (there's a TON of examples of that) Immigrants aren't a negative thing. While some truly come here to better their lives, contribute and be positive people. Others come here and do the exact opposite. I've learned many things and become interested in other cultures due to friends from all over the planet. As for the merry christmas part.... I've seen it on busses too. Look at something as simple as your flyers you get around that time of year. It's all 'holiday' sale. On the television, in the media it's all holiday. Used to be christmas when I was growing up. Go to some other land and try to mess with their beliefs or religions. I think not.

I'll start the list of things foreigners excel at in canada, and imnothing can feel free to add whatever he thinks was so positive.
Let's see, just using the news as a guidline, we have counterfeit goods, illegal workplaces, tax evasion, insurance fraud, credit card fraud, identity theft, scamming the lottery system, illegal wildlife smuggling, human trafficking, heroin, hash, corruption in the MTO / licencing system, dishonest car dealers putting scrap cars back on the road with fraudulent paperwork, dirty restaurants, trash filled streets in their respective neighborhoods, malicious cab drivers, and a terrible smell in the hallway. We'll start with that.

Now just to be fair, here's some positives, because all foreigners aren't here to take advantage of course, there are many good examples of successful legit businesses, medical people, highly skilled individuals etc, certain foreign products and crafts, and of course some diversity, which i'm not opposed to, as long as they try to fit in here.

The fact that we hand out cheques to newly landed people that are higher than the amounts we pay veterans or any canadian that legitimately needs the system, irks me terribly.
Add to that some extra bucks for each kid they have, and a person can easily stay home, not work, and afford a house in Brampton because they are good at living frugal and saving the free handout money.
We may as well swing the door wide open and accept anyone that lands a boat here. ...oh wait... we do that allready.

True Canadians retire in florida to avoid the snow. While the Canadians are enjoying the slower simpler pace of life the immigrants are working hard to make a life. There is nothing slow and simple here, most people live pay cheque to pay cheque.

I find it really funny when people defend this thing call "our" when they don't even know what it is. The immigrants coming are destroying your culture what ever that is just like the natives' culture was destroyed by the anglo immigrants. It's the circle of life deal with it and just be glad you aren't being put in trains and shipped off to reservations as well

I don't know what Canadians you're talking about... I'm pretty Canadian, and I think East Coasters are awesome people (dating one, and my Grandpa is from Gaspe), West Coast people are alright (Vancouver people are nice than Toronto people I find). I work with a whole bunch of Newfs, always a great time and I have nothing against most Natives. So why on earth would a real Canadian hate any of those groups? Those groups make up what Canada is.

Cultural diversity... That's awesome. I love being able to walk through China town or Little Italy and all that sort of stuff.
I just think if you come here, you realize you are coming to a place that is different and you leave your BS where you came from. I won't get offended seeing someone walking around in a burka, and they shouldn't get upset that this country, in general, celebrates Christmas. I'm not religious, but it's Christmas. That's what it's called, that is WHY we have the holidays... Just call it freakin' christmas.
I'm just using christmas as an example.

No issues with people coming here... But I think when they get here they better be ready to pitch in. No hand outs. You come prepared and work your way up like the rest of us. And leave the BS at the door. I don't give a damn what fairytale people believe in and live by, and they need to accept it that nobody else gives a damn either.
I wouldn't expect anyone to forget their religion or their culture. Go practice it in your place of worship, and when dealing with your family, keep your cultural uniqueness... But when you're dealing with the rest of the population, just realize nobody is better than anyone else or deserves anything more than anyone else.

It's easier to accept bad behaviour from your own kind. Like it or not, individually, we represent all the people we look like. You would hope immigrants hold themselves to a high standard of behaviour, not unlike a guest. I'll bet you act like a gentleman on your travels so as not to besmirch the traveller (or otherwise) reputation.

Edit: we had this very same discussion 3-4 yrs. ago. I will reiterate, I'm a childhood immigrant. It was understood we fly below the radar and don't make a fuss. Don't draw attention to yourself thru bad behaviour or God forbid criminal doin's. Don't make ridiculous demands like ordering something not on the menu. Assimilate. It all worked out ok.

Well put. If stupid Canada would start looking at who they're letting through the damn door we wouldn't have such a freeloader issue. Freeloading canadian white folks can get the eff out too

Nobody likes moving to another country, it's because they have no other choice.
Most immigrants have plans on going back home, once it's safe, or economically/politically stable place to live.
What they create here, is their home, but a temporary one. Culturally closed group, with it's morals and values, slightly changed to fit the needs of living close to numerous other groups. Very hard to understand, if you are not a part of.
Is this something we should blame immigrants for? No, I don't think so. Everyone needs to belong.

'Canadian' culture/morals is very hard to WANT to be a part of. Passive, submissive, polite, tolerant..

Tolerance without understanding is worse than racism. It pretends, it sneaks up on you.

I think the sooner we start accepting the fact that individuals and not races are capable of all kinds of behaviour, good and bad, the better off we'll all be. We're not ambassadors of our skin colour or passports, we're representatives of ourselves. If I do wrong, hold me accountable, not others who may look like me. if someone wrongs me, I hold them accountable, not everyone else who looks like them.
