The Reasonably Priced Used Motorcycles for Sale Thread

Too big of a trailer for my needs. But seems like a stupid deal on one…

Since they have over 1000 messages already and a questionable ownership, it's pro a lot not worth the time. If you were in at the beginning and didn't have an issue with a "homebuilt" trailer, it seems like a smoking deal.

I didn’t think it was a home built one…but makes sense. Hell my dad was ready to drop everything and drive up there.

This seems reasonable…

Hard for me to agree. That's only $500 less than what I sold my 2015 Hyper for back in 2021. It was 2 model years newer (with some issues resolved from the factory) and 8,000 kms less mileage. Plus the rear subframe on that 2013 is repainted red for some reason. The rear top box does add some value, but I'd say $7k for a 2013 today is not a great or even good deal. For that price you should be able to find a 2015, which is the year you want for an 821, or better yet the 939's are finally coming down now that the 950's have been around a while.

Uhmmmm
What I didn't say is that $5200 for a "core" RZ is NOT "reasonably priced"... even if it is all there and has the good pipes.
I bought the same bike, a '89 Canadian RZ (the Brazilian '89 has dual headlights and a crappy motor) at the beginning of covid for $1100 that was in better shape. About 2 yrs ago I got one in worse shape for $750.
I've been "collecting" Yamaha 2T twins a while (I have more than a dozen of various description) and in the last 10 years the price of RZs has been MENTAL. They are in NO WAY rare, they're not even that great a bike by today's standard ( a new Kawi 400 twin will SPANK a RZ on the track and is a much friendlier bike on the street)... and what I can't figure out is why the most desirable RZ is a '84 (the last year they were sold in the US), which is a dog compared to the Canadian '88 or '89.
In the same vein: a US RD400F Daytona, in GOOD shape, will sell for $10,000USD. The Canadian F or G (3J7) with improved porting, more HP, more RPM, electronic ignition, better suspension and a crankshaft that doesn't self destruct at 9500rpm sells for a LOT less.
The RD-LC, which is arguably the best RD ever gets no respect either...
Most of the RD/RZs I see for sale, even the big buck ones, are a clapped out POS
... if you buy that RZ: know that tank is un-obtainable (the post '84 tanks changed). There's aftermarket ones... Byron will make you one. I can fix that one. That fairing, only offered in the Canadian market, is unicorn tears rare. The transmissions in RZs were made from this weird alloy of chromium steel and cottage cheese... and are no longer available, you can get Banshee parts but the ratios are all wrong... and because of WHO bought RD/RZs, ALL the transmissions are toast. There are NO 6th gears left... STOP PRE-LOADING THE SHIFTER WHEN YOU SHIFT WITHOUT THE CLUTCH, it does nothing but wreck gears.
If you WANT to buy that bike: DON'T. I'll sell you a '89, with a brand new WickedATV 421cc motor (about 100HP), GSXR suspension and 17" wheels for not much more than his asking. I'll build you a RD400 for his asking.
... yeah I collect these bikes, but I think they're HUGELY overpriced, stupidly overpriced. i should have slapped them together and sold them for big bucks during covid... like everybody else did... but I'm not like that.
What’s an unmolested 74 RD125 with 4500 km and a big tank ding worth?

To me? Nothing... well ...actually... I'll give you $50 for the tach (IIRC it goes to 12,000)

The problem with a RD125 in Canada is no one lusted after them when they were current. Sorta illustrated by what I was saying about the '84 RZ, Americans don't want the superior '86-89 bike because that isn't what they lusted after when they were 16.
I see this all the time with ol' Brit bikes... you meet stupid "boomers" that lusted after a Bonny when they were a kid, and now they have some money, they want a Bonny (not a T100R, which was the GOOD one). I always ask "Have you ridden a modern bike? You know... a bike where the brakes work? that uses half the fuel for twice the performance?"
... and then they pay WAY too much for a clapped out Bonny, and complain about how Brit bikes are unreliable.
If you had a mint shape Yamaha Fizzy it would be worth nothing here, and a small fortune in Britain

You MIGHT be able to sell a RD125 to a vintage racer that wants to do a TA125 replica. A RD125 replica TA125 will SMOKE a real TA125... and VRRA will let you run it... even though it is a VERY different bike. VRRA is weird that way.
... another problem is you're in Canada, when 99% of the vintage market is in the US, England or Australia... and if you have no connections it will cost the buyer $2500 USD to get the bike shipped to Buffalo.
I sold a bike to guy in Daytona and he had to have it NOW... he got the bike in 6 days (2 days at US customs)... for $5800 USD. What a maroon.
I know a guy in Texas that does replica TA125s.
Byron will make you a tank and seat. I have pistons, rings and Hitachi ignitions... some flanged wheels and you're almost there....

This was my TA125 back in the day. RD125 front end with disc brake and wider Akront rims. It went okay, but once the MT125R Hondas came along it was finished. The Hondas with the HRC liquid cooling and hydraulic brake kits would be the ones to have if you could ever find one.

Ugh….if I lived near Ottawa I’d be all over this

But I’m not…so unless in that area can snap it for me I’ll post here

@Baggsy may be our only Ottawa member. Quite a few in kingston area and Trials in between.
If you tell Trials that you bough a trials bike and need the lift to service it I'm sure he would grab it for you.

cheap lift but Ottawa area

Same one I posted. I just can't get out there easily unfortunately. Can't take wife's car for a full day, GTI doesn't have a hitch...

I need a Maverick.

Driving out there from Mississauga with a van just to pick it up would negate the whole savings.
Yes it would still be cheaper but still not worth the effort.
