When oil prices were high, wages were high, employees made out well. When the oil prices tanked again, huge layoffs, no one gives a **** about the employees.

I'll be guessing Norway is doing too well either. My point is, you can't say Norway is doing well because of "Socialist Ideals". They're probably doing well because of their energy rich resource. OK, I googled mid sentence. Norway have an abundance of natural resources, they provide 20% of Western Europe's natural gas. They also possess a substantial amount of Iron, Copper, Lead, etc. This further emphasizes my point.

Take home message is, it doesn't matter if you swing Left or Right, if your country has an abundance of resources you're set.

Canada has an abundance of natural resources. Why are we not all sharing the benefit? Why are we on the cusp of a recession? Why are we not "all set"?

I can and will say that Norway is doing well because of socialist ideals. Everybody shares the burden of work and productivity, in return everyone shares in the benefits of social programs as well as the revenue from those natural resources.

Read this then tell me whether or not you agree that the difference is that our govt doesn't give a **** about us and theirs does.

30%+ government ownership in key sectors (and regulations) in Norway and a much lower disparity between CEO and worker pay due to what appears to societal pressure rather than legislative ones however there are still calls to curb the bonus and golden parachutes of some of the top country's execs.

Plus a decent Social Saftey net and universal healthcare plus and Penal system with focus on rehabilitation all go into making the country a pretty good place to live. It consistently Tops the happiness index.

The focus like Caboose pointed out is they use their government stake in key areas to fund their social programs fully the result is a happier more productive country all around.

Canada has a social contract in place for many generations (CPP, universal health, UI/EI, welfare, etc) yet the money just evaporates. Because socialism.

Well that article reaffirms my point that Norway is not doing well along with Alberta because of oil prices.

If I am reading that article correctly. Norway is doing fine because of proper financial management & that of their resources, not because of Socialism. However, I do agree with you about the politicians here screwing the people & lining their own pockets.

Caboose, this is not a personal attack against you. I keep hearing how Norway is so much better & I want some solid facts. I appreciate that link
