The Official Election Thread

I expect them to not be the government that has already broken every promise that it made, uses fear to win elections, and treats us all like idiots. In this election we have a choice between parties that might do wrong and a party that has proven that it has, and will continue to do wrong. I'll take a shot with one of the parties that hasn't screwed the pooch yet.

In this election there is no difference between voting for the Conservatives and having voted for the Liberals in the last Provincial election. Neither is something that I would do.

I know that your continued answer is as you've noted, but for real Rob, you can't truly believe, deep deep deep all the way down, that either Trudeau or Mulchair won't be exactly the same (or worse).

If you do think that maybe the Federal Cons have it right.....
and treats us all like idiots.

Just admit it, you voting against the Cons is an emotional act and the truth is it's either vote for a party that will continue to do wrong, or vote for a party that most certainly will do the same.

Did you vote against the Provincial Liberals? Was that an "emotional act", or did you consider it to be a necessary action in order to stop a destructive government?

As i said, this is no different. If you voted against the Provincial Liberals because they were dangerous, corrupt, and damaging to the Province and yet you choose to vote for the Federal Conservatives, you have to admit to yourself that you are purely motivated by your personal bias rather than reason.

Up until Harper's second term I was a stalwart PC and Conservative voter. The Harper Government isn't a conservative government. They try to bribe us with our own money. They use government money, our money, to support their election efforts. They don't behave like conservatives. They act like Republicans.

Dude, how blind are you? Replace PC, Conservative with Liberal, NDP, and your entire rant still holds true.

I see how Ontario is driven into the ground with Liberals, why WHY would i let some Hair and Shoulder luxirous hair, dreamy eyed child, with zero experience running anything but his mouth run this country? Cuz his dad was a PM? Awesome credentials!

When a politicals party slogan is "we'll take from the rich to give to the middle classed" and "we'll take lawful possessions from you and make it illegal" They can go **** themselves.

See i dont wanna vote PC, i think Harpers slimey, but i have nightmares with NDP and Liberals in power...

When you want to take my lawful possesions away, simply to pander to MORONS who have a hard time breathing without Big Brother telling them when to inhale and exhale i'll try my hardest to make sure you dont get into power.

I said it to my buds yesterday. The Conservatives need a new face with up to date policies and then I'd consider a vote for them depending on their political platform.

Until then, there is nothing "progressive" about them and it's time for a change.

I'm not blind at all. If you had followed my previous comments, you'd have known that. I have also said, many times, that when a party lies to you instead of rewarding them by voting them in again, you whack them on the nose with a rolled up newspaper by electing someone else the next time around. Enough of that and you eventually train bad doggie that they have to keep their promises, or look for a new job.

Nice projection. Avoid my questions by addressing them back to me.

No, I voted against the Libs because of the "reason" not the emotion. ;)

Great, so we'll vote out the Cons to "whack" them only to take even worse whacks ourselves due to the inevitable Liberal or even worse NDP destruction that will rein down on us.

I guess there is a silver lining though, whoever gets voted in (which you're working very hard to ensure it's not the Cons) will be facing an economic headwind the likes of which probably haven't been seen in my lifetime. It'll look good on them...... ;)

Bang on.

You're utopian views simply won't hold fast in reality, no matter how much emotional anger you hold. They are all bad, and it won't get better (aside from probably a revolution).

There's very little emotion involved here, no matter how many times you repeat the comment. It's also hardly utopian to think that when you allow people to continually lie to you and abuse the public trust, they will keep on doing so. My belief is that you punish someone who has done wrong. That seems to be a rather Conservative viewpoint, given the way that they want to increase the size and number of our prisons. They just don't seem to want to apply the concept to politics.

Is it your belief that the Conservatives will somehow come around and begin to govern in the forthright and honest manner that they claimed that they would, back in 2006? Now that would be a utopian concept.

I wish the Greens and Conservatives could coalition (leprecons?) to cover all bases because at this rate Elizabeth may not get in.

Vote early, vote often. That's my motto.

Trudeau Senior was the master of using your own money to buy your vote, or your grand kids money, with all those buy now, pay later schemes.

Any thoughts on the debate last night? Trudeau was very frazzled and frantic when he got going. In the post debate media scrum he was measured and sure of himself but he seemed less than composed at the time during the debate. That being said he got s few good barbs off against both Mulcair and Harper.

Mulcair made a lot of good points but like Harper he could put you to sleep. Harper did a very good job talking TFSAs, increasing available funds for the homebuyers plan etc.

The one thing that Mulcair articulated well was Bill C51 and why they voted against it etc.

The moderator was horrible. At least real issues were discussed and it was not like the clown car debacle that the GOP is going through in the U.S.

That's such a manufactured story if you ask me. Harper was obviously referring to Canadians who've migrated recently versus those who've been here for generations. The left want to make it sound like he's straight out of the KKK because 'stock' can be interpreted to refer to genetics.

Sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander. The same tactic is being used against Trudeau and Mulcair. If it's right for one, then it's right for all. Equally so when it's wrong.

Your comments are valid if taken in a vacuum but of course when taken in the full context your logic fails. While it may be true that punishing someone for doing wrong is a valid approach, in the case of our current political environment, you'll simply be putting another group that we know will do exactly the same thing as soon as they get into office. So attempting to apply such a "utopian" viewpoint as you're doing won't work.

Is it your belief that the Conservatives will somehow come around and begin to govern in the forthright and honest manner that they claimed that they would, back in 2006? Now that would be a utopian concept.

Nope, we're back to the practical issues of taking the best of a bad lot because I don't think many Canadians have the means to weather the storms that Mr. Mulchair or Trudeau will certainly rain upon us while we "punish" the Conservatives, only to have to punish the next incumbent in a scratch-itch approach that, assuming is successful, will not be successful in one or 2 voting cycles. It will take decades to clean up the political system.

Of course you'll be quick to point out that my position might be defeatist, apathetic, or even condoning of current behaviours, so I'll wait for your suggestions on how the punishment approach will clean up our system quickly while ensuring Canadians don't get economically killed along the way by blithering idiots........or the NDP.

No, you're assuming that they will do the same. You know that the Conservatives will continue as they have. It's that sort of attitude that put the Provincial Liberals back into power with a majority. It's that sort of attitude that put the Federal Conservatives back into power with a majority. Doing the right thing takes time and is hard. if you're looking for an overnight fix to bad politicians who have constantly been rewarded for doing wrong then all that I can say is good luck to you. Quick fixes are for people who don't want to put the work in; lazy people.

Right, we don't know they will do the same because either we've never had a liberal or NDP government in this country or they aren't politicians.......

Give me another solution, because while you claim mine is "lazy", yours is simply naïve.

Sadly the Conservatives have not been "progressive" for some time. It seems to me that once Joe Clark left the fold and Peter Mackay took over they became less and less progressive. Of course once the right united any remnants of progressive elements vanished. As someone who likes to vote just right of centre I feel abandoned...
