The Motorcycle Wave...Are there rules?

Rules:
2) Refrain from the one finger (middle) salute. This will prompt full-on goatee wearing chain drive using MMA champions to exert their manhood all over you after threatening to involve their crew.

Hehe. Watch out for the SOA hoodies too.

YAH! The waving threads have begun!!!! Oh how I've missed these, thank you so much OP :)

Someone please start selling stickers that are a bright chartreuse that look like a hand...Make them $5 each. You put the sticker on your windscreen, fairing, front tire, brake light, front rotor, or your visor if you really don't care to see much and rely on intuition for direction.

When you see the little green hand... it means a wave. And it means you don't have to actually wave again...ever.

And then the 5 bucks goes to a foundation for something nice...like a hospital...or to cure something...

Haha. Front tire! THIS

Some don't because they just don't do that thing or it's the big bike syndrome as the little scooter whizzes past.
Who knows.
btw thats me on the little scooter wizzing past :P same, i wave to all riders when i come across any, even do my best to keep up :P IMHO i believe whether your driving a 50cc moped or a 1200cc V-Max, your still on 2 wheels, and thats all that counts, all the danger, the fun, and excitement is present regardless, so get out there and be curtious, wave back for god sakes :P I popped a wheelie at the last person that didnt wave at me at an intersection and in my rear view i saw him nodding his head, as if he accepted me after the stunt :D and yes this was on my 150cc scooter :P

I just think there's more meaning to waving when you're doing a long trip in the countryside rather than running around near city limits. Or riding when the condition is not ideal such as a cold day or rainy day. It's a sign of respect as someone mentioned earlier rather than just flapping your arms out everytime you see someone on 2 wheels.

Now who will be the first to re-introduce the ATGATT thread.

it's been percolating over in cruising all winter ( see quiet helmet ).

I could not figure out here in Australia what was going on with no waves =turns out a "torqued nod" is the norm.

Hard to describe - you sort of twist your head a bit and dip your head a bit. It conveys something different than the wave - sort of a shrug but with your head if that makes sense.

The none riding equivalent might be touching the brim of your hat and tilting your head.
G'day eh.

Given the combination of either twisties or dirt road or wet road here - it's likely safer than the wave. Now I know what to look for it's pretty consistent - some are just the faintest head twist.

GF says there is an old tradition called "dipping the lid" - she recognized the idea right away.

Well this might be a record here....Mar 24...earliest start for a wave thread....

Any bets on when the first "how do I wash my bike" threads appear?

How do I make the wheels go round? Do I need to shave every day so pretty girls will chat me up and what do you recommend for shaving cream? What sort of boots are comfortable? Please help me and can somebody tell what is this thing called "Google" Please call me on my cell 1 800 I Need Help.

You missed it by a couple of days. Look under STEAM CLEANER thread.

As a noob I think the wave is a gold star for the bike community. The cage is a mechanism of isolation like so many other systems in our modern world like headphones, cubicles, drive-thrus, suburbia etc. It might be a bit redundant to wave when downtown on a sunny afternoon but if you're out on a country road and see another bike, doesn't it feel good to be social if only for a brief moment? And who knows, maybe you'll see that same bike at a gas station or diner later that day, week, or month and it will be an opportunity to meet someone new. This forum is proof that the bike community is a friendly one and I'll try my best this summer to keep it that way by waving to all of you.

Sounds like a plan. We can meet someone new.

I wave to anyone one on 2 wheels..

Don't agree - it's just a silly thing bikers do. Jeeps to for some reason

damn... that's real? I have a friend who drives a Jeep, and he is always (somewhat jokingly) trying to tell me that Jeep drivers wave at each other. I keep calling him a crazy idiot...
