The Motorcycle Wave...Are there rules?

Sport bike riders tend to wave at everyone because we're well, healthy, and fit. Harley riders tend not to wave because they are fat, unhealthy, and unwell. One of them get bashed at in the media more than the other. Har har.
LOL I do wonder why I see so many XXL sportbike jackets on Kijiji though.

Fat people want crotch rockets, I know some that do and I told them straight up not to because of the riding position. Us healthy and well individuals know that a sport position is maintained by contraction of your core. Fat people, and anorexic individuals as well, tend to support themselves via their shoulders. As time goes on, fat people realize it doesn't work....so they have to sell their stuff and move to a Harley forever hating life and sell their XXL or XXXL sport jackets online....

Or, they just never ride again for their dreams got crushed by their weight.

I just question the wave but I still do it. Don't want to be rude after all. I also stop to help any stranded motorcyclist I see regardless if they are a scooter or a patched member. I just like to be a more personable member of our community than merely flapping my wing at random strangers when possible.

Worry about your surroundings and keeping a safe distance from the car in front of you not about why that guy on the Harley didn't wave at you...

You know one time while out for a ride a few other bikers passed by me and waved, I didn't. At the stop sign up ahead I was approached by another biker who was apparently riding behind me. The old man rode up next to me and said something to me ill never forget. He said " they waved, you didnt. That was rude and un-friendly. So if you are not going to play nice with the rest of us park your bike and find a new hobby". That's what he said word for word. As he shook his head and putted off I sat there in complete bewilderment that o just got chewed out for not waving back to someone. I made MY decision never to wave back to random bikers again. That being said.

I still can't believe that waving warrents a debate in this forum. Its a wave people, why get so bent out of shape trying to put rhyme and reason to it. Wave or don't but only do it if you enjoy it, don't expect something back from everyone. I'm sure in time as the years and km's build up you'll wave less and less.

How much time and K are we talking here?
26 years street riding and a few hundred thousand kms and I still return the wave. Unless I don't see it.

I actually had no idea the wave existed until i had my first long ride and came across a cruiser and he stuck his hand out with two fingers pointed down low. I kinda blanked out but some how knew it was a wave . . so i just copied him LMAO after i went home i googled it to find out there's a motorcycle "wave" and now i just wave to every rider, i think its pretty cool friendly gesture lmao

I edited my post as I half deleted it before I hit send. As for you and your waving, good for you I guess. Again though it SEEMS like your a little hurt by the notion of not waving somewhat by having to lay down your 2 cents and there is nothing wrong with that seeing how this is an internet forum and that's what GTAM is here for.seriously though its just waving and personally its getting old. Now were at a point where someone is actually wondering if there are rules to the wave? It just seems that something so simple has been taken to far.

Next will be the A.T.G.A.T.T. threads and a huge cluster #$&# debate of who wears more gear then who and why they are better for it. Same crap all the time and why? What's the point? Just ride people. Do whatever you want with waving , gear, or whatever. Just don't project your ideas of what you think its supposed to be on other people.

I wave at everyone, but I'm a noob and happy as a kid in a candy store.
I don't see it going away from me though as I get more experienced, it makes me feel good.

LOL. I think you should read all my posts before you say I seem hurt by the notion of not waving. You sound like you didn't get enough sleep.

Know how you feel, too many people on bikes these days that stick their noses in your business. I was in a store once holding my old helmet when a guy next to me started lecturing me about helmet safety. I was so dumbfounded I had nothing to say to him and walked away. I'm really disliking other motorcyclists these days.

I know what you mean, I dislike other serial killers. BTW, we all wave at each other too.

Seriously though, somebody gave you crap over your helmet? Would have been great if you had said it was too bad they weren't wearing one before their head injury.

Do you wave, should I wave, why you no wave? check

I think you covered about all the bases.

Oh, I know this has been posted about a billion times, but then, so has this topic:

I love motorcycles, and I love riding. Like many of you, what first drew me to bikes was not just the experience of riding, but the feeling that I'd become part of a special community - a brotherhood, really. Nothing calms me more than a long ride down the interstate, waving to the members of my beloved clan. Except when I pass Harley guys. I hate Harley guys. Hate, hate, hate. When they pass me on the highway, you know what I do? I don't wave. With their little tassel handlebars and the studded luggage and the half helmets - God, they drive me crazy.

You know who else I hate? BMW guys. Oh, do I hate those guys. I don't wave at them either. They think they're so great, sitting all upright, with their 180 degree German engines. God, I hate them. They're almost as bad as those old bastards on their touring motorcycles. You know what I call those bikes? "Two wheeled couches!" Get it? Because they're so big. They drive around like they have all day. Appreciate the scenery somewhere else, Grandpa, and while you're at it, I'm not waving to you.

Ducati guys - I don't wave at them either. Why don't they spend a little more money on their bikes? "You can have it in any color as long as it is red." Aren't you cool! Like they even know what a Desmo-whatever engine is, anyway. Try finding the battery, you Italian-wannabe racers! I never, ever wave at those guys.

Suzuki guys aren't much better, which is why I never wave at them, either. They always have those stupid helmets sitting on the top of their stupid heads, and God forbid they should ever wear any safety gear. They make me so mad. Sometimes they'll speed by and look over at me, and you know what I do? I don't wave. I just keep going. Please, don't get me started on Kawasaki guys. Ninjas? What are you, twelve years old? Team Green my ***. I never wave at Kawasaki guys.

I ride a Honda, and I'll only wave at Honda guys, but even then I'll never wave at a guy in full leathers. Never, never, never. Yeah, like you're going to get your knee down on the New York Thruway. Nice crotch, by the way. Guys in full leathers will never get a wave from me. And by the way, neither will the guys in two piece leathers. And I'll tell you who else I'm not waving at - those guys with the helmets with loud paint jobs. Four pounds of paint on a two pound helmet - like I'm going to wave back at that! I'll also never wave at someone with a mirrored visor. Or helmet stickers. Or racing gloves. Or hiking boots.

To me, motorcycling is like a family, a close knit brotherhood of people who ride Hondas, wear jeans and a leather jacket (not Vanson) with regular gloves and a solid color helmet with a clear visor, no stickers, no racing gloves and regular boots (not Timberlands). And isn't that what really makes riding so special.
