The CMA and the FIM

I believe a link to the MCC statement about the FIM's decision was posted some pages back, but a couple statements and quotes stood out and I think encapsulate what everybody (but one) who has posted here is concerned with:

"CMA has had little participation in international racing for the last few decades. During this time, there has been an overwhelming desire to rekindle international competition in Canada across all disciplines."

MCC Board Chair Chris Bourque states, “I continue to be baffled by an organization like CMA, that does nothing with their affiliation, yet refuses to let it go. All the while, young and upcoming competitors are hamstrung to test their mettle against global competitors.”

There is also frustration within the Canadian motorcycle racing community, including racers and promoters. Veteran motorcycle journalist Colin Fraser, who produces the Canadian Superbike series for TSN says “The path for Canadian racers to the world stage has been severely compromised for the last 4 decades, and we really need to change with the times.”

The whole thing can be read here:

The post with the MOST relevance to the thread.

Earlier in the thread references Alex Dumas. How terribly sad is it that one of our nation's TOP riders had to go to Mexico to ride under a FIM regulated series so he could have the chance to go into MA? That's pathetic.

I know he won junior cup, didnt know he also won twins championship ?

jesus hes only 17? wtf

Does anyone have something relevant to add to the topic 'The CMA and the FIM' or is this thread all about something else?

@Evoex if yourself and others would like to explore the possibility of initiating a FIM sanctioned mini scale road race series in metro Toronto, I have a couple of ideas for potential closed course venues and would be pleased to assist with a club dedicated to that.
not my bag unfortunately.

You question the relevance of the history of motorcycle racing in Canada
I'm trying to show you how CMA came about.
Look at the names:
"Another father and son team who appear on the SMCC Castrol Trophy are Hector and Paul Noiseux, and the club awarded the Miller trophy to both Charles Gref the grandfather and the grandson. Representing the ’40s is the lively Pete Dowden who joined the club in 1948 and appears in the centre of a photo from the 1956 banquet. The same 1956 photo shows the late Bert Irwin from Cornwall, and we are fortunate to have his wife Marilyn and daughter Kellee here tonight. From the ’50s is the inimitable Gerry Marshall who served several terms as club president."

Remamber Gerry? I do, he was awesome, I loved riding with him. Loved test riding his Fanny B trials bike too I wish I could find his CBC radio interview on CMA but it seems to be buried.
Like I said, I believe Helen&Paul are still alive if there is anybody that has an opinion on CMA right now it would be them.

Yes unfortunate, apparently there is little interest in supporting something like motorcycle racing clubs and events.

Toni Sharpless is already working on this WITHOUT CMA or FIM sanction - Home | Super Sonic Road Race School (supersonicschool.com)

At this point, no one who wants to start such an event is going to bother asking the CMA. Why should they, when the CMA has done nothing but throw up roadblocks in the past?

There is ... but not through the CMA.

SOAR has done well, the last few years of CSBK before the pandemic were pretty good. No CMA involvement.

I would love to start such an event in Toronto! but it needs to be through a not for profit, no way could I assist with a venue proposal otherwise. In my life time I expect FIM will continue to be CMA in Canada.

Who in their right mind would want to when they're looking at nothing but roadblocks thrown in their way?

Somebody who wants to ride in the events. A Motorcycle Rider.

And what is the CMA going to do for me if I decide I want to road race this year (bugs permitting)?

And to put things into context, 17 is really old by world GP standards. Most top riders on the GP career path these days are going through the Red Bull Rookies Cup (ages 12-16) and the CEV Repsol (European GP) series (ages 14-18) after already having almost a decade of riding in lower classes.

I haven't followed Alex's career at all so I don't know his specifics. There are likely many reasons why he went through Mexico (like the sheer financial cost of living, training and racing in Europe, if he had wanted to go that route), but it would be shameful to the organizations involved if even part of the reason he went that way was because his Canadian racing credentials weren't accepted in Europe. Another name that comes to mind is Stacey Nesbitt. She made it to the European stage, but not until age 19, I believe. The level of competition is so high these days, that a delay of even a couple of years getting onto the international stage really puts you behind the curve regardless of your natural talent.

If you want to see what you're up against at the world competition level, here's a video of Chicho Lorenzo (Jorge Lorenzo's father) teaching a one year old how to ride.

Oh and holy look at that, somebody is already doing it under the CMA banner in Saskatchewan
I guess CMA road racing is alive in Canada, where is the Ontario chapter to challenge them and make for a potential national.
or does mini road racing not count either
