The CMA and the FIM

Does anybody remember the last time the CMA actually held or had a banner over Road Racing in general?

When our riders want to go south or to Europe the hoops they have to jump through is insulting. Why would they even want to.

Earlier in the thread references Alex Dumas. How terribly sad is it that one of our nation's TOP riders had to go to Mexico to ride under a FIM regulated series so he could have the chance to go into MA? That's pathetic.

Trials seems to have a hard on for the CMA and what they did/do for him. But there is more to Motorcycle racing than just 1 discipline and 1 series.

Where did you read this that you felt compelled to append it to your post

I don't understand. Explain. And more than just your simplistic "send in the forms/application fee". It's 40 years beyond that, because in the view of most of the motorcycle-related community, the CMA needs to be blown up and replaced.

If you're so "in" with the CMA, how about doing something behind the scenes to fix this, because nobody else has been able to.

The way to take control of the CMA was always from inside the CMA.
You guys said CMA has no interest in supporting anything now other then Trials (you conveniently continue to ignore Ice Racing)

Oh look! He's representing Team Canada in Andorra.

This may be a dumb question but how does the money flow in all of this? Does it trickle up from the membership to the CMA to the FIM, or trickle down from the FIM to the CMA. I know they also do fund raising but where does that cash go?

The money flows both ways. The CMA is a 'not-for-profit' organization - ask to see the books ?

Trials and Ice racing... so the CMA supports the smallest population in sanctioned motorcycle events in Canada. That's smart.... insert sarcasm.

MX, and Road Racing even Mini racing (new MiniGP class fornOhvales) are way bigger than Trails and or Ice Racing.

As an example of the way things used to be - Riders were threatened by the 'powers' at the CMA for attending and competing in the Brimaco road racing series in Quebec in the early 70's. They were told that their CMA (and consequently FIM) licenses would be revoked. Some of them used aliases to compete outside of the CMA sanctioned events.
Canada was not permitted to participate at the last MXON because one of the Bastedos had a hissy fit.
The CMA was not then, is not now, and likely never will be your friends.

would this be why so few CDN riders have ever made the jump to the US and Europe? Its just too much work to work around the CMA? it has to be more than our 6 mth season.
We produce F1 car drivers here

There's a jump? Holy, those guys must be traveling at a heck of a speed

Seems like Road Racing clubs in Canada lost interest, dropped out, opted out or whatever from FIM sanctioning commencing in 1996 according to the official records.

I believe after 1989 or 1990 the only CMA affiliated championship road races were held at Atlantic Motorsport Park under the auspices of AMCRA.
After that pretty much everyone stopped caring - a CMA championship and $1.50 got you a cup of coffee at Timmy's.

Does anyone have something relevant to add to the topic 'The CMA and the FIM' or is this thread all about something else?

@Evoex if yourself and others would like to explore the possibility of initiating a FIM sanctioned mini scale road race series in metro Toronto, I have a couple of ideas for potential closed course venues and would be pleased to assist with a club dedicated to that.

A "national" ice racing series that takes place ONLY in Alberta. As I said, in reality it's club racing.

I recognize one name on that list occupying a significant role. They are a very nice person and have been involved in off road racing for many decades, but ALWAYS as an unquestioning supporter of the CMA and the traditional group running things.

If you refer to Derek Thomas he's a great guy.
Thomas' are one of the many families my wife and myself closely associate with, through participation in the sport.
