Fuel efficiency increases when you're not stopping for lights and traffic all the time in town. You'll still spend more to get out of town, but it's worth it - you won't consider "riding" in town as actually riding after that.

I've never had a deer problem. You're at higher risk from inattentive city drivers than you are of any "natural" disasters.
