The Childfree Movement

Seems like there is strong wave of childfree movement going on in Canada. Almost as stronger as those stickers on van windows with those dumb stick figures.

Personally I see nothing wrong with the childfree movement.

And I personally really think finacing/leasing a nice car is far better investment than having a child (and cheaper too).

Plus I find that giving most couples are having children just for the baby bonuses from the government!!

With a uncertain future (most volatile in human history) it almost certain in the next 10 years there will be no future. Which make having a child, one of the most meaningless things to do today.

So, I support the childfree movement, and yes I am fully able financially to have a family and support it - I just choose not to - I am my own child!!

I can see you have never had a daughter/son look you in the eyes and say I love you.

I was the same way till I had my daughter and I would never want to change that.

Just to clarify:

I am in no way against parenthood or having children. I believe parenthood is a great thing, just not for everyone. What I believe is that parents have no right mistreat those who can't (and won't) have children.

People ask me why I won't have kids.

I just reply " I don't share toys"

And the purpose of this thread is?

I can't say I am exactly childfree as I have a 14 year old daughter -- although I never lived with her and never helped to raise her as me and her mother didn't exactly get along. I still see her once every few months, but it is more like she is my niece than a daughter.

My wife and I will never have kids of our own. We enjoy life too much with the free time and money we have by not having children. I see my friends and people at work who have small kids, and they are constantly busy (and spending money) doing things with the kids -- no free time, and no free cash. Hell, I won't even get a dog because it would tie me down too much.

While I would like to have a kid or two sometime soon, I understand the child free crowd. Mostly rebelling about those "Baby on Board" stickers or stickers with stick-figures of a family that really say "I'm gonna drive like an ******* and you have to let me because I was smart enough to knock up my wife/get knocked up by my husband". Also screaming children in theaters/restaurants - big nono.. Finally I think airplanes should have a soundproof section for parents with children under 12 years of age. Other than that, it's all good in da hood

I can't believe you compared financing a car to having a kid! Haha, so funny!

I don't understand why anyone cares what other people do as long as it doesn't adversely affect the rest of us. Just like gay marriage. Why do people think they should have a say over that?

I have three kids and I never thought I would have any. It personally drives me batty to be lumped in with the rest of the very often crazy, craft obsessed, crock pot carrying, dumb stick figure family moms.

If people are having kids for the baby bonuses, those people really suck at math!

Also, most volatile future in human history?? When hasn't the future been the most volatile and who is judging and based on what criteria? That's a pretty ridiculous statement.

I have always been concerned about the population crisis but in all honesty if the smart, educated, genetically sound people, stop reproducing, things are only going to get worse because the "other" people in the world are popping out kids like there is no tomorrow and nothing is going to stop them. So kudos to the Duggar family and the mom's clown-car-vagina!

So true.

Re: Dumb people having kids and smart people stopping - Ever seen the movie idiocracy? Lol.

It's already been happening for a while. Why do you think we are where we are today?

The childfree movement is just the next wave of the former collection known as the "dinks" , dual incomes - no kids. Nothing new here.

Lots of smart folks have the most rotten , entitled and rather useless kids I've encountered. Same could be said about low income, under educated folks, they just aren't in my social circle.

The stick figure minivan logo folks are just celebrating family and sometime displaying interests, like a guy wearing a Kawi t shirt, he likes his bikes , its ok. Except the people with the stick figure cats, really? multiple cats? what the hell is wrong with those guys?

I support those that make a conciencious effort not to have kids, because honestly some people just shouldn't have kids. They aren't for everybody.

Doomsday clock is probably the closest thing:

(Originally, the clock analogy represented the threat of global nuclear war; however, since 2007 it has also reflected climate-changing technologies and "new developments in the life sciences that could inflict irrevocable harm."[SUP][3] )[/SUP]

d!!

But your parents having you was not meaningless Im guessing?

... what baby bonuses?

kids aren't investments
neither are cars

wtf is this crap.

Are you trying to justify this to GTAM or to yourself?

I don't quite understand this recent knee-jerk cynicism towards family or those who are proud of having one. You don't want kids, don't have 'em. And if you're looking at having kids in terms of financial investment, you probably shouldn't be having any kids anyways.

with respect to world volatility, human population is projected to reach 9 billion by 2050. By comparison, in 1950, the population was 2.5 billion. That is a HUGE growth rate. Unless there are dramatic improvements to food and drug availability, things are going to be bleak for a lot of those billions of people.

Really? I have to say you nailed it. I only had a kid so I could cash those big baby-bonus cheques, and torment childless members of society.

And very lucrative for those living in natural resource rich countries.......like Canada. Not too mention Canadas population would drop like a stone if we didnt bring in immigrants.

Me and my wife have both chosen not to have kids. We are early 30's with good jobs a house 2 cars and 2 bikes debt free so we can afford them. I think kids are highly overrated and not worth the trouble. We have 11 nieces and nephews and looking at the crap their parents go through we will never have any.
