The Car Thread

996TT, and it's been great. Its my daily for 12mos of the year unless I can take the bike, which I'll usually do instead. The last of the fully analog Porsches IMO which makes it more connected driving but also easier to modify.

I've had it for many years and all that's gone wrong is its ignition went with I fixed myself for $25.

There's a wide range of values. When I was looking many years ago everysingle one of the lower priced cars had issues. If you're looking for one, the cheapest 996TT will probably end up being the most expensive. Common problems are transmission ($14k in my car fixed under warranty by previous owner).

Nice

$14k is a scary dealership warranty OEM replacement price, I'm sure. From what I've seen, a rebuild should be under $3000, especially if you pull it out yourself.. I'd do my own work.

hurry up and buy one, can't wait to hear your stories on getting raped for parts, insurance and service....

Insurance for occasional drivers is cheap. Service is in my own garage. Parts... meh. An ignition coil is $50, a Bosch MAF is $280, a Bosch starter is under $400, etc etc. It's not a Ferrari, but certainly not a Civic either. Bosch makes a lot of OEM replacement parts for those cars at a fraction of the cost.

Speaking of getting raped for parts and repair costs... when is the nsx arriving?

Who qualified you to speak on my behalf regarding my experiences with german vehicles and bikes?

You did by commenting about getting raped for parts and repair. If you had any knowledge of german cars and specifically porsche you would know there are many ways to keep costs down. Please carry on with your automotive expertise. Go honda go! :agave:

I don't mind paying more for parts to drive something exciting. Honda hasn't made such a car in a decade.. last one being the S2000, and the NSX before it. I cringe to think what the used sports/supercar markets will be like in the future.. who in my position will be able to afford to service/repair the 996TT equivalent of the next decade? Not a chance.

I was eyeing a 6MT E60 M5 recently but decided to forget about them entirely - rod bearings seem to be a 100k regular service, and VANOS parts are insanely expensive, not to mention needing computer equipment to diagnose and repair it properly. It's a shame, the V10 really appeals to me.

Where's the best place to get a Bosch MAF?

Id buy an Integra Type-R they're rocketing in value. Japanese classics are the next thing.

I still think that's steep but whatever to each his own. You can even go onto Rob Faretti's instagram on his latest picture there are nothing but complaints about the price.

I'm not sure I agree with you.
Ferrari and Lamborghini are panache brands and have a large pool of customer's who will line up for the 458, Huracan.

McLaren is having trouble moving the new 650s in the sub $300k range and just introduced the ~$225 570 model which looks like a baby P1 (halo car, $1 million). Not to mention the limited dealer network.

Ford has a great product with the new GT, but not at the $400k mark. There are so many better options. Even the new Ferrari V8 is a Twin Turbo (Ferrari 488). The V6 in the new Ford GT - i dunno... didn't work too well for the Jaguar XJ220 in the early 90's when they dropped the V12 for a TT V6. But then again, the Jag was introduced at a very bad time (economy tanked) and it was a lot more expensive at the time.

P.s, Rob Ferretti (Super Speeders) has had a Ford GT for a long time.. I'm not sure if he still does - so his opinion might be a bit biased.

All I'm saying is at 400k for the gt it damn sure better rival the McClaren, 458 Italia, huracan etc. Those cars carry with them a panache that I just can't see the Ford having. It's a killer car don't get me wrong but given exotic options it wouldn't be near the top of my list.

+1

unmolested 300ZX TT would be nice
Even slightly modified I'd take one. No rice though. Sapphire blue please *drools*
