The Car Thread

A factory five kit cobra with a fuelie small block and 6mt. Modern day suspension and breaks, nicer paint work and any color I choose. Oh and not half a million for something you're nervous to take out on the odd sunday.Yes please. How could you say no to that? :dontknow:

I guarantee you from just looks none of you would know in person it's not the real thing.

Even if it is 100 perfect correct and no one knows I would know. It's the same as getting pec or calf implants in my book. Superformance makes a beautiful gt40 continuation series that even uses the VIN sequence from the original and 99 percent of the parts can fit on a real GT40. I still wouldn't feel right driving it. My issue but I just hate kits or replicas

For us mortals it's the difference between attainable and unattainable.

I'll never be able to afford a real Cobra but building a kit is something I could do some day. I could also probably build a tubbed and blown 1955 F100 street rod too but the Cobra kits are a good bang for my buck

I don't need to be convinced as I said its my preference. I can get a 250 GTO for 38 million or a replica for probably under 100. I can't buy a car for 38 million ( one day would be nice!) but I do not want the replica at all

I hate working on stuff, if I have to I will. One of my garages has a lift am I cool enough for you now?
and the gardeners are women and the landscaper uses mousse so there

I just spent 2 days building a bag rack and later this morning will run it to the powder coaters 50km round trip. Probably the most inefficient use of free time imaginable. Stay away from tools you're plenty cool enough in my book. Keep up the good fight, it's not enough that you don't prefer kit cars.

You are a silly man.

If your horses aren't show or race winners they're basically replica horses!

Drive just uploaded a video of a beautifully done 68 Mustang that has a lot of modern upgrades. Entertaining video to say the least.

Ok, I think I'm starting to understand this new slant on the car hobby. Presenter in video takes huge influence from and is motivated by movies. I guess to do the hobby in a socially accepted, return on investment manner, one needs to follow the inside track.

There are some kit cars I'd purchase and proudly drive it about.

The Caterham's take on a Lotus 7

Superperformance take on Shelby Cobra

There is also no shame in having a '32 Ford with Chev small block with modern FI and 6 spd trans.

Also like some updated 60's/70's muscle cars that had original 6 bangers and now have modern suspensions, wheels, rubber, motor and trans etc.

Don't like classic factory muscle cars that have the same treatment tho.

My Aunt is a collector. She has a daily driver Corvette. It's a 74 with updated modern Chev motor. The stock engine is kept in storage.

She also has a 71 with a stock big block 454 and 4 spd. Great machine. Also a 92 ZR1. Beautiful machine.

Also has a 66 Chevelle with 396 and 4 spd. It's a beast.

It's always great to visit her and she'll ask what keys do I want?

Yes. Love the Lotus 7

Yes nice cobra kit

No! If you're going to build a replica anyways out a Chevy in a Chevy and a Ford in a Ford!

I always thought that myself. Why on earth would someone have a chev motor in a Ford???

Now? I guess I don't really care. Lol.

I don't like replicas or kits either, but for whatever reason I exclude Cobras and Daytona Coupes from that... especially the Daytona Coupe. It was never a "real" car to begin with. There were only 6 ever built, and they were kinda junky from what I hear.

I wouldn't build a replica Ferrari. I'd build a Daytona Coupe in a second.

As for the Cobra, it kinda started as a bastard car to begin with. A real Cobra is kinda a kit car too isn't it?

Not its more like a hot rod or modified car...AC ace with 289 and 427 Ford. Still started as a production vehicle.
equivalent today would be something like the destino or Hennessey venom
