"The Beer Store’s secret sweetheart deal with LCBO revealed" - says The Star

Re: "The Beer Store’s secret sweetheart deal with LCBO revealed" - says The Star

Yes Irocian, we all know that the 3 big multinational breweries operate the beer store out of the goodness of their heart at no profit.
Next thing you're gonna tell us is that the people working their are all volunteers.
That's why beer prices in Ontario are higher than QC and surrounding states.
Btw. in QC you can buy beer at Costco for about a buck a beer.

But they've never shown a random employee the books, they can't be making anything

Jeez, really??? .... I operate a warehouse and as such run it as a cost center, therefore I expect it to break even, not make any profit at the warehouse P&L. It doesn't mean I am not making a profit at my company's P&L from my activities using such warehouse.

I am pretty sure that this silly line of thinking will not be lawyer's defense.

Expect the 407 flavor kind. There will be some ironclad clause nobody knows of until some later time .... these guys are not stupid. Greedy yes, stupid no.

The 800 million claim is the operating budget given to the beer store to run and operate the store as I have stated before.
The deal struck between the Lcbo and beer store was to stop the Lcbo from selling all the imported beers and not letting the beer store sell them.

The 800 million budget covers the buildings, rent if we don't own the land, employee pay and a set acceptable loss that is looked at every year. Also the security needs of company and IT department.

When a beer is sold the money at end of week is sent to the Brewers.

You can believe it or not but when lawsuit is heard you will see the truth. We are run by the breweries but we are a non profit company.

All monies made go to breweries and then they pay the amount needed every year for us to operate.

The truth will come out the government and Lcbo wording that is quotes in this lawsuit is not even close to the truth.

You can insult me all you want heard worse. However I'll wait for lawsuit to be heard and see what everyone has to say then.

  1. The Beer Store operates as a not-for-profit entity, however, a study in August 2013 by professor Anindya Sen of the University of Waterloo stated that the near-monopoly the Beer Store has in Ontario allows it to capture as much as $700 million in "incremental profits" each year."

The profit bit, that's what's left over after they paid the bills to keep the stores running.

Again doesn't go to beer store goes to Brewers they are the bosses. They always say the beer store instead of the breweries they are the owners

That's what everyone in this thread is saying. The fact that 3 multinational owners take $700 Million per year in profit is what grinds everyone's gears. At least the money the LCBO generates stays in the province (at least we believe anyway...).

This profit is as a result of the monopoly they are allowed based on the laws and legislation in place.

I get it, it doesn't trickle back to the beer store and they keep it afloat just enough to appease us peasants that require anything larger than a six pack. But don't for once be fooled that they're not gaming the system in their favour at our expense.

Re: "The Beer Store’s secret sweetheart deal with LCBO revealed" - says The Star

.... dude, where do you think profits go besides the bosses? To the store manager? Seriously what are you smoking man?

You think The Beer Store is a charity? You sell beer to make your owners profit. Period. "The Beer Store" is a front for the owners to sell their beer to a huge market. This front is a monopoly which screws us, the consumers, thanks to no competition.

The breweries could be but it's not coming to beer store. Constant cutting of workers hours if go over hours by 1 in a week **** hits fan by manager as his hour for staffing budget is set in stone for year.

As I have stated the beef is with the 3 breweries not the beer store.

The Beer Store is owned by the breweries LMAO so of course our problem is with your ****** store... get it thru your head, you work for a monopoly which FUNNELS money out of Canadian pockets into FOREIGN companies, and our own government allows the monopoly to go on. PERIOD.

Re: "The Beer Store’s secret sweetheart deal with LCBO revealed" - says The Star

The Lcbo for years didn't want anything bigger then a 12 and chose to sell just 6 packs. The Brewers could care less who sells it as long as it sells.

Our competition is the Lcbo they sell beer that they won't let us carry.

Did you even read the 'Sweetheart deal' that this whole discussion started?

it states the opposite of what you just wrote.

What caused the lawsuit was the blatant collusion that allowed for the monopoly of the beer market to happen in the first place. What was initially intended to give some life to the beer store, turned into their cash cow that now holds 80% of the market.

Are you saying if Microsoft makes a 700 million dollar profit but it goes to the owner bill gates, microsoft didn't make any money, bill gates did?

Lol come on man, we get it, you work there but you sound ridiculous

Re: "The Beer Store’s secret sweetheart deal with LCBO revealed" - says The Star

What don't you get? We are a non profit company the Brewers are the bosses and owners. They make the money if not why aren't beer store for sale then? I'd love to buy a store if it made money but they don't and when this court case is even heard I'll wait and see what people say then.
Has nothing to do with me working at this company if the truth hurts then hurts but doesn't change the fact it is true.

Re: "The Beer Store’s secret sweetheart deal with LCBO revealed" - says The Star

This business isn't like Microsoft or Toyota we don't share the same name as the breweries.

The breweries could care less who sells for them as long as they make money. It's that simple. The Lcbo made the decision to carry smaller sizes not the beer store as the breweries would make that choice.
