The Bad Drivers of Ontario Thread

I think Two Wheel Motorsports should take note of this, seeing as how it is their policy that their mechanics do this, and more, with customers bikes.
I think that the mechanics at pretty much any bike shop that I've dealt with have done the odd "test ride" on customer's bikes, at north of legal. I really doubt that I was the only one to see something in the neighbourhood of 160 Kmh on my old '95 GPz1100 and it frequently had more than just a couple of extra Km on it, when I picked it up.

What was 160 on that bike? Second to third shift point? IIRC that's around where it was on new 600 RR's and newer 1000's could still be in first. If you have a problem and high rpm and high load, hope the shop has a dyno as there is no legal way to get there on the street.

I don’t really have much issue with this. Can my bike comfortably do 160 without any damage, yep. How many kms is the tech putting on? Less than 100? Meh.

I’d rather they test their work as long as they aren’t breaking things, a tech shouldn’t.

If they get caught or destroy the bike let their insurance cover it.

With the torque that it had, I short-shifted everywhere. Before riding it home I read the manual and I think it said something like "keep below 5,000 rpm for the first 1000 Kms." I got on the 427 and it felt like everyone was going incredibly slow that day, for some reason. I looked at the tach and it read around 5,800 rpm. "Crap, I better ease off a bit." Looked at the speedo and it showed 160 Kmh. "Ohhhhhh."

One of my friends swapped bikes with me so that I could try out his GooF2 and pronounced that anything over first gear was "merely a suggestion."

That's were things go wrong. I think in most (and maybe all of these cases), it's your insurance picking up the tab.

I honestly don’t know. I’d like to think they have some coverage and if their employee is being an as$ hat they would have to cover it.

I’d also like to think that if my insurance covers it that it’s not at fault and I’m not penalized.

Hopefully I don’t need to cross that bridge

Dad had a good inexpensive car mechanic that went belly up. He took a customer's car out to check it out and pick up lunch. Got into an accident, but not at crazy speeds. I think that the customer sued him, and he had to close the shop. It might have been a difference in lawyer quality.

This one was pricey. Mechanic @ Ferrari of Ontario hit by someone running a red.

I suspect it would be easier to settle with the dealership privately. Logically it makes sense that if a business takes ‘possession’ of your vehicle then the liability should change hands but…

Does post-humous count? This stupid entitled ********** took out a couple innocent people on their way to hell.

Police say the 36-year-old man was driving a white 2020 Cadillac XT6 eastbound on Lake Shore Boulevard West and Eighth Street when he struck a vehicle that was parked on the south side of Lake Shore at around 5:15 p.m.

Police described the collision as “minor” but said the driver of the Cadillac appeared to be having a seizure and was unresponsive after the crash, prompting people in the area to smash the vehicle’s window in an effort to help him.

Toronto Fire crews arrived on scene, but police say the man got back in his vehicle and fled the scene eastbound on Lake Shore Blvd. W., before officers showed up.

Police say the vehicle was speeding when it struck a 75-year-old man and 43-year-old woman who were attempting to cross from the north side of Lakeshore Boulevard West and Superior Avenue at a crosswalk.

After striking the pedestrians, who both died, the driver rear-ended a flatbed trailer that was parked and unoccupied for a construction project in the area.

The driver of the Cadillac was later declared dead at the scene.

In an update Friday police said the driver was under

  • a Canada-wide Criminal Code driving prohibition
  • a provincial driver’s license medical suspension
  • an additional administrative Provincial driver’s license suspension
EDIT:
It would be interesting to learn the fallout. How did this person end up driving this vehicle. Was it loaned to them? Was it theirs and unplated? Was there monkey business with insurance to get a plate? If someone helped them get behind the wheel they should get sued and lose huge and insurance likely will stay out of the way as they won't believe the argument that the helper didn't know they were prohibited (x3).

People who are under suspension *will* find a way to drive whether it's by conning someone, stealing a vehicle, or some other means. If you have a friend or relative who is under suspension and takes your vehicle report it as stolen, as soon as possible. Protect yourself. You *will* be on the hook for what they do, otherwise.

I am quite sure the guy was very high on meth or crack.
Last year I was in my back yard here in Sauga and heard a car bang into the curb on my little side street. I go investigate, the car had stopped, and the lone driver was smoking crack or heroin or something off some foil. Then off he goes. He came back the next day to retrieve the hubcap from the side of the road.

Some years ago, in afternoon rush hour traffic, I came up behind a guy who was lagging behind traffic when it moved, accelerating to catch up, and then hammering the brakes to stop just short of hitting the vehicle in front of him. His head was wobbling like a bobblehead every time that he did this. I was on my bike, so calling the cops wasn't an option, so I asked a guy in a car to do it for me. No idea if they ever caught him but I somehow doubt it. You don't generally see cops on the packed highways during rush hour. I was sure this guy was going to eventually kill someone.

Six year driving ban for killing two children in a driveway because you were driving your mercedes 100+ km/h through a subdivision. Disgusting. It should have been at least 20 years. Kid can drive again when he's ~23. That's not even an issue if he goes to post-secondary school, he can get a license when he is done school.

Mto officers on twitter are pulling over an alarming rate of un licensed/suspended drivers driving big commercial trucks. The few I follow on twitter have pulled over a couple each per week the last few weeks. Scary. Also many with wrong class of license towing something heavier than they should....

Likely a first offence and a minor, so sentencing guidelines kicked in. I'm actually surprised at the 6 year ban (not that it will stop the kid).

That helps explain why there are so many accidents nowadays involving trucks , especially between Toronto and Windsor.

Ridiculous. Driving normally and an 'incident' happens, sure I can even perform the mind gymnastics for a lenient sentence.

Actively speeding through a neighbourhood and killing kids on their front yard...unbelievable.

I'm curious what would happen if the offending driver was NOT well off or had a good lawyer. Would the sentence be harsher? I hope the parents sue the entire family for all they're worth.
