The "Are you thinking of a new bike for 2024?" discussion thread.

The CVMG (Canadian Vintage Motorcycle group) has various specific classes for different ages of bikes. They used to recognize a bike that was at least 15 years old. I'm not sure where the cut off is today. Myself I consider anything from the 80s vintage.
Well my Harley has 3 more years to go. I've never had a vehicle that long before.

You clearly haven't seen the rafters in my garage lol.

Got a basement? I'm reorganizing my garage yet again and realized a lot of tools/parts/stuff that logically should reside in the garage have been untouched except to move out of the way, so down they go. My goal is no longer to just fit everything, but also have everything accessible without moving anything onto the driveway. Almost there...

That seems to be my problem as well.

I tend to need to hold onto to crap that I really don't need.
I then need to move a lot out of the way to get to that one thing I am after.
It's a horrible disease.

Dealer called, my bike is ready.

I guess this weekend is going to consist of another major garage cleaning and reorganizing, because holy hell I've no idea where the heck it's going to go in there right now if I want to have a shred of space left over for getting the snowblower through, the garbage to and from the can, etc.

Hate to say it, but the Vulcan may be evicted and be forced to live outside in front of the garage door on my side, under a cover. Guess I'll get more aggressive with selling it now as well.

I guess I could just put it in the free space in there right now and pull it out as needed. It has reverse so it'll be less of a PITA to get back into the garage afterwards at least - our driveway has a very slight slope that makes pushing a 900# bike backwards into the garage a not fun process. Won't be any issue anymore now however I guess.
I’d bet the dealer will store it till spring for free. If they are not choked for space, they like mo’ bikes on the floor.

I have that problem too, too many doubles of things. When I upgrade tools, I tend to hang on to the old ones. I’ve been clearing stuff, donating to my sons. So far.. band saw, brake, compressor and tons of air tools. Circ, scroll and jig saws, a full set of Rigid cordless tools, mig, Roto tiller, drill press, and countless garden tools.

Now I have to lean out the motorcycles, I can’t ride 12 bikes.

On second thought maybe I can.

1 for every month of the year.
Doesn't sound like a problem to me.

I didn't get that indication, I think they're looking to see it on its way honestly, especially considering it takes up the space of 4 regular sized motorcycles. 😜

Mine to!

I think this gets worse when you get older. I'm hoarding some stuff. Mostly cardboard boxes, the other glass jars.
I already have lots. Now my latest thing is to dump stuff in the garage, that I should be throwing out. Gotta clean that up when it gets warmer.

Are they delivering it for you or are you going to brave it out out and ride it?

I'm sure we can help if needed.

I actually used a power supply from a computer a few weeks ago to repair another computer. Not a common power supply and i didn't want to buy one as I knew I had one.

The parts computer only sat in my basement for maybe 2-3 years. In hoarding years that's like infancy.

I would love to ride it home honestly and between the heated seat and grips on the bike plus my heated gear I would be totally fine doing it at anything above zero, however reality is the roads will be a bit of a mess if we get those sorts of temperatures in the foreseeable future, and I'd rather not get it covered in crap only to let it fester on the bike for 6-8 weeks before I can turn the water back on in my garage and rinse it off.

There was some discussion about them being able to deliver it in their enclosed trailer and the driver was going to be out doing another call that's still being worked out.

My weakness is computer cables and defunct hardware.

But you just never know when you might need 5 LPT printer cables, or 6 or 8 DB9 serial cables, or some SCSI cables or drives. Or maybe an MFM hard drive from an XT.

My problem in my garage? Tools. A lot of supplies. A lot of camping gear. But I could pull the engine out of a vehicle tomorrow and rebuild it (have done it a few times in the years past, got some pistons and glow plugs hanging on the walls to prove it) or rewire a motorcycle stem to stern, then replumb the whole house, fix the pool, rebuild some electronics, store 100L of fuel in various Jerry cans hanging from the rafters if there's an ice storm coming, jack up 2 cars for simultaneous oil changes, 3 if I use the ramps also in the rafters as well as my 2 hydraulic jacks. It goes in and on.

I even have room for 2 motorcycles in there, soon hopefully 3 lol.

Congrats again

I'm digging that 1968 Firebird front end!

So do I. It was one of the things that first got me into this bike honestly. The comfort, niceties, and other stuff I've read about it since for the last few years more or less sold it the rest of the way. Was just waiting for them to get into a palatable price range and that finally happened.

Did you ride it home? If so, how did it feel?

Unfortunately no, it ended up coming back from the recalls and certification faster than anticipated so at that point it was time to close the deal. I took up the delivery option from AM given the road conditions, forecast, plus the snow - it arrived just as the heavier snow started yesterday as well.

The delivery guys rode it up the driveway and right into the garage for me.

Bummer not getting to actually even ride it yet, but it is what it is buying a motorcycle this time of year.

Looks like a good rain on Friday and then 5 degrees on Saturday, albeit cloudy, but if the roads dry up I'll probably go for a scoot. Wouldn't have been a good enough and reliable window for me to have suggested I go pick it up and ride it home myself however. So delivery it was.
