And this is what makes enforcement effectively impossible. At this point I think that legislation should be altered to put the onus on the company that is contracting the telemarketers. They are, after all, acting as their agents which should make them responsible. That would put these idiots out of business, fast.

I'm considering it for the next Federal election, in Bramalea-Gore-Malton. I'm a member of the Rhinoceros Party. My plan is to create a call centre in Brampton to accept calls from the off-shore telemarketers and say, "Sure, send someone over!" This should occupy all of the duct cleaning trucks that they can dispatch, so that they can't bother regular citizens. Ultimately this call centre will be outsourced to Mumbai, so that we have Indian call centres dealing exclusively with Indian call centres, sending trucks to 'spoofed' addresses that turn out to be vacant lots.

I watched the Marketplace show tonight where they filmed the pathetic rip off duct cleaners working. After the taping they interviewed the workers and one who was more honest than the others admitted that even he gets the duct calls.
 
8 appointments a day. What a rat race. The bald guy sure enjoyed his moment of glory.

I LOVED Those! They would come and ask for a bill so I would tell them to give me a minute, shut the door then go back to watching TV. My couch was CLEARLY visible from the front door. They seemed to get the message.

Had a pair of them show up at the door just last week, claiming to be from our service provider. One of them tried to get his foot in the door. Gee, wouldn't they already have my billing information if they were actually from the company that I contract with? Bloody morons :rolleyes:

A few things people should remember and make sure all your friends and family kmow this.
1: Enbridge will never come to your door and ask to see your gas bill.
2: Enbridge does not rent water heaters, or do service repairs to appliances.
3: Enbridge is a gas distribution company, they do not make money on the sale of gas; therefore they never sign gas contracts with customers.
so if anyone comes to your door and are doing any of those 3 things and are claiming to represent Enbridge, get their name, company name and call Enbridge to report they are flasely claiming to represent Enbridge Gas.
The most important thing is, we all have picture ID's that will have Enbridge on the top, and if it's a contractor, it will be Lakeside Gas and it will have Lakeside Gas on the bottom of the ID. of course if you're in an area that isn't covered by Enbridge then contact your gas company. Which will probably be Union Gas.

argh I work late get home around midnight and have this SQM Marketing or something out in B.C constantly calling me 5 times a day from morning to evening. I google their number and found out they have a remove phone number list so I enter my number in and they still call me. I'm also on a do not call list.

If you have verified the company somehow, report them to the CRTC. If this is actually a Canadian company, then there's some recourse. If they are calling on behalf of a company that you have a business relationship with then they may be exempt from the DNCL, but a desist statement from you should stop them from calling.

I've had people show up at the door wearing Enbridge hats, but a badge that's obviously from an unrelated company. These lying bastards have no shame and my "No peddlers; Religious or Otherwise" sign isn't necessarily a deterrent to them.
