Telemarketers - Help!!!!

my friends always go "hold on... you have the wrong number, it's (another friend's number)"

Statistics show that people on the DNC list get more telemarketing calls than those who aren't. As an ex-telemarketer. I would have to disagree that telemarketers hate wasting time cause thats what I.loved to do at "work".

The DNC list does not apply to anywhere outside of Canada cause it can't be enforced. The only thing you can do is get caller id and not pick up the calls or get another phone system such as magic jack. Changing numbers wont do much cause I fpund the autodialing system calling people that had their number from like 2 weeks after that number was assigned.

FYI the company I worked for bought the phone list from Bell.

I have that too & long distance is cheap. I dont give out my new # to any store. I think they sell your # when you return stuff at the store.

I have a sign at my door now. Says no solicitors & peddles, lol

Sent from my Phone, dont judge the grammar

Why don't you want bicycle riders at your door ?

I get these calls every week. Sometimes I have fun with them other times I tell them to f/o, but mostly I tell them that their timing is great as I just moved into a new house and would love to have the ducts cleaned. I ask them to repeat the name of the company they are calling from. While I ask other inane questions I google the name of the company they are 'representing', find their address and give it to the telemarketer. They usually don't put it together. Oh, and don't forget to give them my 'new' number too.

I make sure to order the works. Duct Cleaning, sanitation, furnace cleaning, blind cleaning, scrotum wash, clitoral scrub, you know, the works.

Marketplace did a hidden camera show on the duct cleaning scanners. Airs this Friday at 8 iirc

You can get call screening through Bell, in which the caller has to announce who he is before the call is put through.

Or you could just say that you have to turn the stove off and you'll be right back, then leave the phone off the hook for a half hour.

We don't use a landline. Neither my partner nor I receive telemarketing calls on our cellphone.

Of course not the best idea for emergencies.

I was in the same situation. No land line. I finally caved and put in MajicJack. Solves the problem for $40/year and no solicitation calls.

What can a landline do for you in an emergency that a cell phone can't

I'm guessing 911 cannot pinpoint your exact location?

Landlines are still functional during power outages because the power is supplied through the phone lines (and Telephone companies generally have pretty robust generator systems). Now of course if you have a cordless phone or a phone that's proxied through your voicemachine you're still SOL.

For those who don't want to break the bank but want a simple generator, a lot of crank-radios have usb-jacks which you can use a converter to charge your phone (as long as it's a smart phone!)

And yes, that too! Most phones don't have GPS capabilities, or if they did, it's not likely on by default.

I don't know anyone who doesn't let their answer machine pick up unlisted/private/unknown number phone calls on their landline. Unless I recognise the number everything goes to the machine.

Not so for my cell as it's also a work phone.

If only it were that easy - sigh!!!

They are now spoofing the caller ID displayed so it looks like a regular 416 or 905 number. I need to pick up because of my business.
