TD wants to chase away all customers

Well that bike would be the exact same as a 600cc SS through state farm as they would both be listed as a 600cc regardless of style.
I am assumimg you are under 25 or not bring a car to state farm to get that quote as I pay 70/month for full coverage on a 600 SS through SF with a multi-vehicle discount.

I'm actually 31. Maybe TD is lower because I've also got my house and car insurance with them. Regardless, I am with M2 license which I haven't had for a long time, perhaps that's why the quotes are so high...

Have you quoted moving everything to SF?
moving my truck over lowered my bike $50/month (From $118 to $70), and the truck was only $5 more then I paid before.

$547 for a '08 zx-6r at TD Meloche (liability only). I have age (over 45), bundled discount (car and condo contents), alumni / group discount, no mods (stock ~100 hp is enough imo), GM license and no tickets. On my suggestion my buddy shopped his '07 R1 and got a 50% rate reduction at TD Meloche for 2010. He will be moving his house and car there on renewal. For him it was the alumni discount.

I'm happy and never bother shop the rate anymore as it's the best deal for me. Seemingly not for others.

I'm actually in the same boat as some of the guys here:

Been driving since I was 18 (24 now), got my M2 last year in June 10th, and turning 25 on September 25th 2012. I canceled my insurance policy because my GS500F is gonna renew in February for $3200.

I'm trying to find an insurance company that would pretty much adjust my rates twice (otherwise, I'm going just gonna risk it till June 10th).

The other problem was, this December, I got into my first accident because some ***** ran a red light and slammed into me. Because the police officer couldn't prove who ran the red, and we had no witnesses, we were deemed 50/50 at fault. TD said this does not affect my insurance (because I was driving a car), but what about StateFarm? I heard they base your motorcycle insurance off your car insurance?

Doesn't matter you were driving a car. It's on your record now

Read the post agin:

TD specifically told me they keep car and motorcycle records separated (if this is still ambiguous to you, they explicitly told me that my motorcycle insurance is not affected). I am asking if there are any other insurance companies that operate the same way; not whether or not it's on my record.

It should not matter what you were driving/riding, it all goes on your record.
You only have one license #, that's what your driving record is attached to.
If you get a ticket for drinking on a boat it will effect your car insurance rate as they ticket your license. Same thing goes for atv, sled, bike, etc.

To answer your question. All of the insurance companies operate the same way.

Just did an online quote with TD... 302% of what I'm paying to Jevco.
41, riding 3 years, 1 minor car infraction, no collisions, liability only, Buell 1125r -- $1300 Jevco, $3926 TD.

They might have said it won't affect your insurance as they might be giving you a freebie. If you go to any other insurance company you will have an at-fault accident on your record (>=25% fault is the same as at fault).
I had an at-fault accident in my truck with SF and they said they would give me a freebie and none of my rates changed, But any other company will see an at fault.

Thank you.

Guess I'm screwed, when does the record wipe again?

Must be the 1125 cc's making it an ugly rate... might as well have refused coverage for me outright with that insulting rate... Wonder if an RSV4 would be cheaper at 999 cc's...

maybe you should re-read your own ****ing post.......let me help you:

"TD said this does not affect my insurance (because I was driving a car), but what about StateFarm? I heard they base your motorcycle insurance off your car insurance?"

what part of my answer was incorrect?
Ya, they are going to base your motorcycle insurance rates based on your car record. Lol

When I was going insured with Jevco, they asked about auto and motorcycle accidents separately.

I was told by the broker that auto accidents are not factored in for motorcycle insurance premium calculation. Of course an infraction or charge stemming from an accident will count against you for the motorcycle premium calculation.

You will have to call Jevco to confirm the above, it seems my experience is atypical.

Just got my renewal papers the other day. whent up $400!!! with TD and i have no change in insurance.....no tickets, didnt move etc.
im 26 with a KTM 990 and will definatley be shopping around.

I got quoted from Primmum for 1800/yr with basic coverage last September. 19, M/G2 lisence, course deduction, no tickets, DRZ400SM, and got my renewal after the winter and is 1600 now. I was getting 2200$/yr quotes from Jevco and all other insurers except SF, they wouldn't even give me a quote because I had a G1 lisence at the time. -_-

Primmum also quoted 500$ less for a CBF1000 as comared to SF which was like 1100/yr or somewhere in that ballpark for someone I know.

scuba steve - I heard that ducs of the 1198 type are just too expensive to repair (my jevco agent when I had a 500R) and are generally blacklisted.

I'd like to see an insurance specialist clear the air to seperate fact and fiction - I was under the distinct impression that insurance cos don't care whether you've had an accident with a car, motorbike or boat (or even bicycle if a police report was generated) - an at fault accident indicates recklessness or carelessness, regardless of what you were operating. Same goes for convictions - it's against the license, not the car / bike / boat.

EDIT - I understand that some insurance cos give a free at fault muligan - but my question above does not include this
