Stupidly overpriced motorcycle for sale thread

Re: CBR250s

I might pay $3k for a clean CBR250 that has ABS.

Bluebooktrader.com says:

2012 HONDA CBR250R ABS

Retail Low: $2,600.00 Retail High: $3,224.00

Re: CBR250s

Guys,
I'm in the market for a recent Honda CBR250. I am just wondering if you guys think the bikes posted online lately are overpriced.

The price of a bike is what it sells for. What is asked or listed is irrelevant.

There are 250CBR and Ninja 300 ads above MSRP that have been there since last summer. They will never sell unless they get realistic.

You have to understand that few people actually go and see these bikes, so the price in front of a real person, not some Nigerian Prince lowballer on the interweb, is very negotiable.

Take the current new bike price at a dealer and drop it 20%, then 10% every year after. Anything else, (warranty, pipes, farkle) is worthless on the bike.

i.e you can buy a new 2014 Ninja 300 for $4800 from a few dealers, so used street price is $4K or lower. Most ads are above 5k, but will never sell.

What you can learn from this is:

Don't waste a dollar modding a small bike, save that money to get a better bike.

Re: CBR250s

Ya don't care about mods at this point, in fact, don't wannem, I am just learning to ride, and plus insurance asks me if there r mods done, so I don't even wanna go there. Every bike I have inquired about...if it has a modded exhaust..I ask them to put the stock back before offering...

but yeah, $3000 is exactly a fair price for these bikes IMO, but sellers are all up in arms about "no lowballs" bla bla bla, and I'm like... Ffffffuuuuu rite?

also the price on the UVIP matters. $4000 vs $500 is a HUGE Hit in taxes.

Re: CBR250s

Taxes are on the purchase price, not the UVIP. If you pay cash, that price is whatever you say it is, and they cannot prove otherwise.
no I know but I understand its best to draw up appropriate paperwork between seller and buyer to prove it if asked by the government.

best to pay in cash too IMO, just to make sure everything is tracked appropriately.

I used to worry about that, and i have seen an investigation, but they are rare. Pay some nominal value by bank transfer, the rest in cash. Since there is no blue book for bikes, they cannot prove any value. Just say it was crashed.

Not sure they care about bikes..tiny tax revenue and they got their taxes on the new purchase.

Re: CBR250s

Picked up a 2013 Repsol CBR250R with ABS 8000km for $2500 full stock, left fairing was marked becase it tipped over when the dude parked on grass lol...
I think the prices of the 250s will drop even more once there are more R3s out on the street~ should be seeing them next month.
If you can wait, next year might have much better deals :)

Good point, when a new R3 is $5K, those 300s are not going to sell above $4k. Ninja 250s are selling for $2500.

Re: CBR250s

thats going to depend on if its OEM or not.
i think OEM list price in canada is somewhere areouns 180-220 ish, the china ones paint doesnt match and they are 20 bux. you get what you pay for.

You also have to find one that's been weathered about the same amount as your bike. Brand new OEM isn't going to match a 5+ year old bike either.

I bought an Ebay one and was a little ****** that the colour was so much darker and richer than my bike. A year later and it actually matches pretty well :)

Re: CBR250s

Good point...
but I am not waiting till next year to buy a ride. LOL.

There are numerous cbr250s on kijiji for $3000, even a couple at $2750. You just gotta look outside the gta. The better deals are further out, two sweet deals are in Sudbury and Cornwall. Otherwise toughen up the negotiation skills and get one local.

Cbr250 - $4800?

Guys,
Do you think this CBR250 is overpriced, or can he justify $4800 because its fenderless and has an upgraded exhaust pipe?

Its just that, the new CBRs (300, without ABS) go for less at the dealership. Mind you, thats plus tax and freight, but still, $4800 seems high to me for a used starter bike in Hamilton.

I sent him an email asking if it was a typo but I haven't heard back yet.

Re: CBR250s

LOL at the "adult owned" as opposed to most bikes on kijiji which are owned by 4 year olds???
