Stupidly overpriced motorcycle for sale thread

Ok, but you can waste a lot of time. There are a significant number of people who are financial disasters and/or are clueless. I wouldn't bother to see a bike and negotiate just to find out there is a serious issue with mileage, money owning, or write-off.

"Oh yeah, I was going ta pay it off when I sold the bike" is really common, but the reality is you buy the bike, you buy the debt. That's why UVIP exists.

UVIP is good for 30 days.

Mileage isn't on the UVIP (for bikes) so you're always going to have to take their word. Financial disasters / writeoffs are going to be a waste of time whether they have the UVIP or not. If they don't, and I want their bike, it might mean an extra trip before you figure that out. IMO, that's just an unfortunate part of the process. On the other hand you can usually get a good sense of the seller's situation just by talking to them and asking them about the bike. Asking them what will be on the UVIP is also a good way to figure out if they're a liar, since you're going to see it anyway.

Buying the debt is exactly why I would never give money before I see a UVIP. If the bike is close, I'd go have a look first. Most people (including myself) need to organize transportation and money anyway. I also don't like the idea of showing up to meet a stranger with a bike and $X,000 in my pocket in case I want to buy it. I'd rather check it out and strike a deal with them first, then come back later with the money and paperwork once I know they're legit. If the bike is far away, that might not be realistic. 2 trips is a pain so I'd get them to have the UVIP and tell them I'm bringing money.

30 days sounds like a long time, but depending on what/when you're selling it could easily be a few weeks by the time you find an interested buyer and schedule them to come look at the bike. It took me 21 days to sell my last bike, and I considered that relatively fast.

Mileage is not on the UVIP, but inconsistencies with mileage reporting is on the UVIP. i.e. if the bike was registered one year with 10,000km, then a few years later with 8,000 km.
I helped a friend buy a bike, from the nicest guy, real sweetheart, but when the UVIP appeared, he had $6K owing on it. Said he was going to use the money from the sale to pay off the bike. Maybe he was, but if the transfer went through, he could have kept his $6K.

i have never had to report the mileage of a motorcycle to the MTO.
