Stolen Motorcycle.PLEASE HELP

Duh.. i know that. I meant since he knew about this forum to come ask for help i wondered why he wasn't already a member here before it happened. I'm just always a bit suspicious of brand new accounts with sensational stories i guess...

I was a member of this forum a couple of years ago and then got busy with uni and forgot the password and user name. when i got my bike in feb i joined back this forum. i wrote it here now because i needed help. i really hope this explains why i wrote it.

Hi. I am sorry for your loss. As for insurance, I do not think it is a big mistake to have it not covered. My policy with insurance companies is to pay them as little as possible and never ask money from them. And this did not come from thing air, it is totally based on my and my friend's experience. I always pay from my pocket from year 2000 on, because you can take from them only once without them taking from you everything and more back. Lets admit it guys, insurance in Toronto is just a kind of legalized robbery. So, sit happens and you just paid for it and it is good that you did not have it covered. If your insurance would pay, it would be just like a mortgage and you would finish up paying even more anyway, just postponed and stretched in time. So, start saving for a new bike and always check few times if keys are with you, when you leave it. Just try to think about the whole thing as an expensive but important lesson almost everyone did or will get some time(s) in their live. As for the thief, I would not envy him. Imaging you have stolen a horse that you know you have to kill shortly and you like horses. On the other hand, if he does not like them, this should be even a more miserable existence, wouldn't you agree? See you riding even a better bike in future.

Thank you. IF i dont find it then i cant do much but to move on. thanks for your wishes

just keeping checking kiiji, craiglist, autotrader and ads that sell motorcycles online daily for a while. I doubt the person that rode off with your bike is a professional. He'll keep it hidden somewhere and won't be able to insure it so if ever he's pulled over and you've reported it to the police than you've got your bike back!

Did your helmet have anything that is distinguishable from other helmets just in case the thieve is dumb enough or too cheap to buy his own helmet?

That sucks. If I was ever made the mistake not to put theft insurance on a modern SS; I would call my insurance company the same day it was stolen and have theft & fire put on. Two days later I would be reporting it stolen.

I believe that is called insurance fraud

It would be unusual for an insurance company to cover a stolen bike if it had the key in it.

Why is that ?. Key in the ignition, or a giant neon sign saying steal me is irrelevant, a bike stolen is still a crime and insurance still pays out.

Le sigh.

Did you ever check to compare basic liability versus full coverage? For me the difference was very little. Only about $20/mo.

At least he won't have to pay for insurance anymore. A new rider on a R6 can't be cheap. Using that money to get a bus pass is almost like getting a free bus pass. Op look how lucky you are.

You always have to kick someone when they are down.

Op don't listen to this idiot and good luck

There's a lot of ppl in this thread doing that; but again, I had to convince my gf not every rider is an ******* because of these boards.

OP, PM me or anyone else that's friendly if you wanna talk, get a drink, or something. You may very well make yourself feel worse by posting this public.

Comprehensive, and fire & theft do nothing to your rates. There's no deductible on people hitting your bike when its parked, I'd imagine there is none for fire/theft either. People who pay for insurance but don't use it at all are just as bad as people who go through insurance ALL the time.

well, when the op reports it stolen, how sure is he that he left the key in the bike, maybe he lost it in the theater...no point bringing it up...

As we say in my office "Stupidity is not excluded" (no offence OP)

If someone backs into your parked bike and they stop and give you their info that's a DCPD claim and there is no deductible or rate impact.
If they back into it and flee the scene that is a hit and run which is paid under collision and you pay your deductible, but there is still no rate impact as it is not at fault.
Comprehensive coverage covers you for fire, theft, vandalism, falling/flying objects etc. There is a deductible and rates are not impacted (there are certain situations that the deductible doesn't apply)
The only time your rates are impacted by a claim are at fault accidents and single vehicle accidents.......that's it.

I didn't read past the first couple post, but i wouldn't tell anyone that you left the key in it. No offense, cops would just laugh it off. Bikes probably in peices on ebay and kiji as we speak. sucks brah, but thats what theft insurance is important, bikes alot easier to jack than a car.

I disagree. Sure, telling the cops that you left the key in may get you some laughs but it makes it much more likely that this was a theft of oppertunity and not planned. This is important info for an investigation (if they decide to pursue one). If it was done by pro's in a busy parking lot than that bike is already gone. If it was done by some dude who saw the key, put the helmet on and rode away there is a high possiblity that he does not have the connections to dump it quickly and properly. He might ride it around for a bit or try to sell it whole. You did something dumb......so what, don't hurt what little chace you have of getting that bike back by trying to protect your pride.

hmm... i'm still trying to figure out why you didn't get theft insurance ? I have theft on all my bikes that are allowed to have it (TD MM doesn't theft insurance on 15+ yr old bikes) ... and its only about 80 bucks for one and 60 for the other ... 60 bucks is peanuts for being able to leave it in public places...

You're making an assumption...Some one who stole it would have to know how to ride...had some idea of what he was doing seing as how he didn't crash it and make the news.

Just saying the cops deals with alot of dumb ****, a stolen bike due to something as dumb as leaving the key in it and taking off for a few hours will not be a high priority, maybe you get lucky and some one makes an anonymous tip. All they'll do is make a report and hope it turns up. You should ask if they have cameras pointing at the area, thats your only hope.

best of luck bro, again not trying to put ya down.

that sucks man. Sorry to hear that.

I'll keep an eye out. Feel free to PM me photos and plate # if you are comfortable with sharing.

i don't know how many times i've almost left the key in the seat unlock on the SV. Kinda makes me want to replace it with an electronic popper of some sort that only works when the ignition is on.
