I parked my Yamaha R6 at Scarborough Town Center and then went for movies.
This was a bigger mistake than leaving your key.

Duh.. i know that. I meant since he knew about this forum to come ask for help i wondered why he wasn't already a member here before it happened. I'm just always a bit suspicious of brand new accounts with sensational stories i guess...
Hi. I am sorry for your loss. As for insurance, I do not think it is a big mistake to have it not covered. My policy with insurance companies is to pay them as little as possible and never ask money from them. And this did not come from thing air, it is totally based on my and my friend's experience. I always pay from my pocket from year 2000 on, because you can take from them only once without them taking from you everything and more back. Lets admit it guys, insurance in Toronto is just a kind of legalized robbery. So, sit happens and you just paid for it and it is good that you did not have it covered. If your insurance would pay, it would be just like a mortgage and you would finish up paying even more anyway, just postponed and stretched in time. So, start saving for a new bike and always check few times if keys are with you, when you leave it. Just try to think about the whole thing as an expensive but important lesson almost everyone did or will get some time(s) in their live. As for the thief, I would not envy him. Imaging you have stolen a horse that you know you have to kill shortly and you like horses. On the other hand, if he does not like them, this should be even a more miserable existence, wouldn't you agree? See you riding even a better bike in future.
That sucks. If I was ever made the mistake not to put theft insurance on a modern SS; I would call my insurance company the same day it was stolen and have theft & fire put on. Two days later I would be reporting it stolen.
It would be unusual for an insurance company to cover a stolen bike if it had the key in it.
At least he won't have to pay for insurance anymore. A new rider on a R6 can't be cheap. Using that money to get a bus pass is almost like getting a free bus pass. Op look how lucky you are.
You always have to kick someone when they are down.
Op don't listen to this idiot and good luck

Why is that ?. Key in the ignition, or a giant neon sign saying steal me is irrelevant, a bike stolen is still a crime and insurance still pays out.
Comprehensive, and fire & theft do nothing to your rates. There's no deductible on people hitting your bike when its parked, I'd imagine there is none for fire/theft either. People who pay for insurance but don't use it at all are just as bad as people who go through insurance ALL the time.
I disagree. Sure, telling the cops that you left the key in may get you some laughs but it makes it much more likely that this was a theft of oppertunity and not planned. This is important info for an investigation (if they decide to pursue one). If it was done by pro's in a busy parking lot than that bike is already gone. If it was done by some dude who saw the key, put the helmet on and rode away there is a high possiblity that he does not have the connections to dump it quickly and properly. He might ride it around for a bit or try to sell it whole. You did something dumb......so what, don't hurt what little chace you have of getting that bike back by trying to protect your pride.I didn't read past the first couple post, but i wouldn't tell anyone that you left the key in it. No offense, cops would just laugh it off. Bikes probably in peices on ebay and kiji as we speak. sucks brah, but thats what theft insurance is important, bikes alot easier to jack than a car.
You're making an assumption...Some one who stole it would have to know how to ride...had some idea of what he was doing seing as how he didn't crash it and make the news.I disagree.
