Stolen Motorcycle.PLEASE HELP

Since I doubt the bike was targeted and stolen by " pro's " there might be a chance it will get tracked down assuming the people that stole it are retarded. Lesson be learned, ALWAYS get theft insurance on a motorcycle, especially something that means that much to you. Theft insurance would of been what ?, an extra $100 a year ?.

It would be unusual for an insurance company to cover a stolen bike if it had the key in it.

Sucks man, sorry to hear. I've left my keys on the bike before and just been lucky. Report it in the stolen bike registry on the off chance it helps but sorry to say it's likely gone for good.

Does insurance even cover theft if the keys are left in the vehicle?

Op what brought you to this forum? you weren't a member here until this happened? Just curious..

I'm more curious as to why people buy expensive, highly desirable vehicles that are easy to steal and somehow decide theft insurance a waste of money. It's usually one of the smaller items in a policy--liability and accident benefits take up the lion's share of the cost.

There's nearly one thread a month with the same story. Maybe they don't have insurance at all? That would make more sense than not spending a few hundred a year (at most) on theft coverage.

That sucks. If I was ever made the mistake not to put theft insurance on a modern SS; I would call my insurance company the same day it was stolen and have theft & fire put on. Two days later I would be reporting it stolen.

Ya cuz that wouldnt be suspicious. Probably think they would cut you a cheque the following day too.
No doubt it might get flagged as :bs:

wait a second.

You are telling me you didn't put comprehensive on your motorcycle? The coverage that costs next to nothing?

wtf?

You should be paying a decent amount anyway, and you decided not to get the "someone backing into my bike" insurance?

This is starting to smell like you not having insurance at all.

that is the part i would omit when reporting it... bike was stolen, dont know who or how... unfortunately no theft insurance in this case...

EVERYONE get theft insurance... EVERYONE... liability is hte expensive piece of insurance, theft is pennies on top of it.

i've known plenty of people that pay 2500 for liability... and then dont throw on the fire/theft/vandalism for the extra $100~ish per year... personally, i dont think the risk is worth the savings. lets not get too hasty in accusing people based on absolutely nothing.

In downtown TO I noticed a number of bikes locked to a post or have disc lock on the front wheel. Even if the bike key was forgotton, it might prevent the bike from being stolen.
Since most insurances companies have at high deductable. ($500 or more) I am considering to buy a disc lock for my bike.

Hope the Police find your bike.

This sucks but I can't imagine not having theft/fire. I never pay for collision but always go for the fire /theft comp.

I bet the farings will be swapped / painted and in a couple months I would check the VINs of the R6s parked at your mall. Thief will use it to get to their hangout area.

That sucks. Just move on, its not the end of the world.
But... at night, on a bike, to a theatre!!!. Night crowd.. you better have known what types are generally around at that time.
Anyways, fk it and move on with this learnt lesson.

Sorry for your loss brother, I hope it turns up.

I don't know if it's possible, but I'd contact the tracks (cayuga, shannonville, etc) tell them your story and vin # and ask them to keep an eye out for it, cuz it might turn into a track bike. Sorry for your loss

Hi. I am sorry for your loss. As for insurance, I do not think it is a big mistake to have it not covered. My policy with insurance companies is to pay them as little as possible and never ask money from them. And this did not come from thing air, it is totally based on my and my friend's experience. I always pay from my pocket from year 2000 on, because you can take from them only once without them taking from you everything and more back. Lets admit it guys, insurance in Toronto is just a kind of legalized robbery. So, sit happens and you just paid for it and it is good that you did not have it covered. If your insurance would pay, it would be just like a mortgage and you would finish up paying even more anyway, just postponed and stretched in time. So, start saving for a new bike and always check few times if keys are with you, when you leave it. Just try to think about the whole thing as an expensive but important lesson almost everyone did or will get some time(s) in their live. As for the thief, I would not envy him. Imaging you have stolen a horse that you know you have to kill shortly and you like horses. On the other hand, if he does not like them, this should be even a more miserable existence, wouldn't you agree? See you riding even a better bike in future.

most of you guys leave the keys in the ignition, in the on postion, no less.because of the training courses teaching people to use the kill button to shut off the engine, people walk away from their bikes with the key in the bike, killing their battery's and charging systems. don"t get off your bike without putting the key in your pocket, end of story. helmut lock or not.
