Sterling banned from NBA

he was sued by Elgin Baylor for discrimination before, claiming Sterling ran his organization like a plantation-type company. so no, this isn't the first time anything like this has happened. they had known of Sterling's view before but had no concrete evidence of anything happening.

in my views, his punishment was just and Commissioner Silver acted appropriately.

NAACP gave Sterling a Humanitarian Award in 2008 and a President's Award in 2009. Now THAT **** is funny.

He's racist, but he pays us so its okay. Until everyone hears about it, then its not okay.

Just like his players and his other employees? What does it make them? Cowards, at the very least.

Since when is it against the law to say something racist?

BTW we;re all guilty of what this guy did, come on now how many of you made racist jokes? Asians driving?

Its not illegal. He's not being charged with anything. But HIS employers (kinda, sorta) decided that what he said looks bad on the whole organization and thus want him out. Nothing illegal about that either.

I'm the one making Asian jokes, lol. But I'm Asian. I am quick to point out racial differences. I once asked my ex if I'm racist, she said NO. She said even though I say certain things I don't really mean it, lol.

But back on topic, if the majority of the players working for you is black, why would you say that? That's like biting the hand that feeds

Biting the hand that feeds? Its his hands that feed the players, not the other way around.

And he said those things in a private conversation. He's free to say and think whatever he wants. He isn't rich because he owns the Clippers. Its the other way around.

Many of us have employers who would terminate us if we made racist statements that were featured in a highly public manner, on top of a history of racist incidents.

my wife is Asian; my kids are "bi-racial" so I have no stomach for racism beyond incidental jokes, which still make me cringe.

How many kids do you have? 2? Do you think they will both be just average drivers, or will one be terrible and the other good?

I think everybody agrees racism is bad and what Sterling said is very bad. I think we're struggling with other aspects of this story now. Maybe read the link in post #25.
I would hope you''d feel the same way no matter what race you married.

The fact that it gets blown up is the worst. If he was banned and "fined" behind closed doors I feel it would be better. Racism will NEVER go away, however it's even worse when it's always publicized. Same goes with stuff like school shootings. You have that stuff aired on CNN front page for days; it gives young troubled youths incentive to carry out whatever demented thought process they were mulling over to prove some twisted point on front page news.

Right. I agree.

Well its the good players that are making his team win! Winning makes "Holla Holla Dolla"

Depends on the day of the week. The more important question is, would they kick out their kids out at 18 or let them get married before gifting them with a house??

It's wrong and ultimately right on a few levels. The guys a bastard, the media is scum, but in this day and age, where a person can lose their job over what they post on Facebook, why are we so surprised? He said it - he own's it, he pays the consequences. Rightfully so.

So be careful of what it looks like you're defending here: a piece of s*** with so much money that he thinks he can do and say whatever he wants, or people celebrating what is pretty much a modern day lynching*.

Careful - your boss might be reading this.

(*Well, not exactly lynching - I'd rather be stripped of my money and reputation and have nothing than be dead.)

If my boss is reading this he can go ****** himself.

Hypocrisy is all that this is. Anyone who HASN'T made a racist remark/joke in private please raise your hand. Yeah i thought so...

I hate to say it but everyone on this planet is racist to a certain degree, what Sterling did behind close doors in a private conversation is strictly his business, he was set up by his trophy girlfriend...now everyone is jumping on the bandwagon thanks to the media!

I heard on the radio earlier that when Sterling bought the Clippers he paid 15 million for the team...now it's worth 700 million, so who will have the last laugh?
