any thoughts on this ?

this might not be the most common answer, but I feel that this punishment is way too much.

this person was recorded during a private conversation ( illegally ) and as you listren, you can hear the GF pushing him to talk. its a total setup.

who cares how he actually feels about people, his ACTIONS suggest otherwise.

you shouldnt be punished for how you think.

you should be punished for how you act., he employs many minorities and pays them well.
he dates a mixed race girl. all his actions suggest he doesnt care. its in PRIVATE that he discusses his views.

if anything he's a hypocrite.

it looks to me like he was setup all the way. listen to how she speaks. its like its scripted.

Ya, wow imagine if you were judged on everything you did, said or thought privately? What a frenzy. Shame on all the media people who know enough to make all the right noises so as to not jeopardize their careers. Madness.

This is the first time Donald Sterling has popped up on my radar ever, I know very little about the man. I haven't heard what he said, either (nobody seems to be repeating it) but I'm assuming it's pretty horrible.

I find it striking how fast the decision was made to oust & fine him, however

I think the fine is definitely justified.
I've read somewhere that he was totally aware that he was being recorded. Not to mention, this is not the first time he's been found of discrimination on minorities. If you dig a little deeper, you will find that his actions do NOT suggest otherwise. In other words, Sterling feels this way but NOT JUST in private. So let me ask you, how would you have punished him?

And sure, this is how he feels, but not doing anything to punish him is essentially supporting his views. As a player or someone employed by him, would you still want to work for him? Would you continue to 'win' and earn him money for an owner who publicly states that 'black people smell and attract vermin'?

My understanding is he asked his gf to not bring black people to a game as they get to rowdy.

there is no way at all he knew he was being recorded... you asked me how I would punish him ?

well, im not the guy in charge, so i dont know all the options. i can see a fine, and maybe some charity work but a lifetime suspension and have to sell the team ? no way.

as for the other question.. these players are multi-millionaires. if they dont want to play for the clippers, they just dont have to re-sign. and any player that thinks their beliefs are stronger than their wallet wont play for him.

imagine you were at dinner and said something bad. you gf records it and gives it to your employer and you get fired...iis that right ?

if you act like a racist at work, then you should be punished, if you act cool at work, but in private you feel differently, you shouldnt be punished

I am just going to say that there's a lot more on this guy's file ... not just this reportedly private conversation. I suggest you look around at the guy's long standing "record".

Sativa,

Again, dig deeper. It's not JUST this incident. He's been known to exercise prejudice against his black employees! He does not act 'cool' at work. He's been sued by his ex execs.

He's been a racist POS for years, yet people still willingly worked for him and took his money.

ok, lets twist it around... theres been stuff in the past was it dealt with ? if it was, then why was he not suspended and fined before ?

my point is this.. from all the info about this recorded tape, he should not be punished for it. Im not trying to stick up for this man. I dont like him.

its the manner in which they did this is what i think is wrong.

Biggest non-story of the year. My dad says the same diatribe but he's not a wealthy man with young trophy girlfriend with a recording device.

Isn't public humiliation enough? He said bad things. Shine the spotlight on him. People are disgusted and will ostracize him socially. He could be put on notice: we are watching you-if it can be shown you obstruct any person materially, no matter what colour, we will go after you. The way it stands now this is thought punishment. And all the lemmings jump on board. For everybody else......if the walls could speak........ Don't be so smug.

What ever happened to innocent until proven guilty, not that he's made any attempt to deny? Once he's proven guilty he's fair game.

Funny how hypocracy works. Premier Wynne is slamming the Tories for unproven crap but she was pretty open on slamming Rob Ford when he hadn't been proven guilty of the crap she was yapping about.

As far as Sterling goes, if the guys a true bigot so are his friends so his life won't change. He's a billionaire so a $2.5M fine is like the average guy spilling a cup of coffee. If he's an egotist more people now know his name, he wins again. Does he worry how the guy in the street feels? Do you think he got rich by worrying about the guy in the street?

Um, well I guess therein lies the difference.

I'm sure plenty of folks still feel the way Sterling does, except this guy owns an NBA franchise in which more than half of his employees are minorities.

?

He has admitted to saying what he said. He is fair game.

.

He has paid huge settlements in the past to avoid court cases related to racism.
