Staying in shape during corona

Landmines? Damn, you people take fitness seriously. Good motivation not to give up an drop the weight.
LoL ya. I've never used it before but doing some research it's a fairly cheap ($35+tax) accessory for some good workouts.

I've been using a TRX, a band, a super old banded-bench press, and a ****** elliptical. I can't wait for gyms to open back up, my gains have all vanished (not all, but still). I'm also staying with family and they've destroyed my diet. -_-

So ... my kb adventure kinda died. Messed up my knee 3 weeks ago... i started back at it gradually when it go better but it still feels wonky the day after (no pain)... so 5000 swings @ 50lbs in about a month instead of the 10k
I'll take it and maybe try again some other month once im back at 100%.

I'll revert back to calisthenics, bicycling on the trainer and jump rope

What type of trainer do you have? Too bad about the injury. Never easy and it gets tougher with age (and I'm only 40). 5000 swings is still a **** ton. Seen some good results from it?

I have a tacx vortex! It works well...except i fell off the structured training wagon, so im just spinning easy while watching tv, racking up the miles
My friends all have direct drive trainers and make me jealous haha

The worst part with the injury is that it doesn't hurt... but i just dont wanna take any chances, since it shouldn't feel "off" the day after.

5000 swings id say taught me that i can do the 10000...and that chalk is a MUST for this kind of volume, and that there's no shame in slowing it down. It probably improved my grip a bit and helped my hammies/glutes activation a lot. I cant SEE results as i keep eating all the chocolate in the house but overall i'm happy.

I can relate to this 100%. Have been having an uncomfortable pinch in my right shoulder after press exercises in my PPL routine. I'm starting to hit close to my peak numbers and may lower the weights to refocus on form. But it's so satisfying to hit new numbers! Last night I hit about 150lbs (3x10) on the bench press, which is just shy of my 170lbs (3x10) max. It's not that it hurts...just seems tender, not even sure how to explain it. Thought maybe I hit it somewhere, but it's happening more often.

better to take it easy then to be stuck with an injury, especially in these covid days... seeing a physio would be hard

Could just be old age (40) and the healing isn't there lol. Although been like this for a few months and I skipped 3 months of working out because of it late last year. Somebody find me a cure for old age dammit!

Same here.. nagging shoulder.
Back off the weight and slow down the reps.. or up the rep count.. and/or try doing a set or two of flys to pre-exhaust the chest before you bench.
Concentrate on form and connection vs pushing weight.
I can push 245 for sets no problem.. but typically keep it around 205-225.. my rep tempo is slowed and I get a much better workout using less weight and concentrating on squeezing my chest muscles and feeling my reps vs pushing weight.
experiment with grip width.. and where on your chest you bring the bar down to... If you bring down to bottom of chest.. try mid or upper.
I put a 1" board under the footing of my bench.. giving it a slight decline.. and that helps.
Grip makes a difference for me as well... I find the 'suicide' grip to be much easier on my wrists and shoulders vs a thumbed grip..

Thought maybe by now things would have cooled off...nope

All the decent weightlifting/fitness equipment makers are still all sold out/on hold

Looking to build a modest gym with a barbell, weights, a squat rack

Went to fitness depot a few weeks ago and they still had some equipment and were waiting for more. States that their supply chains from both the US and China were down due to COVID. They are anticipating restocking early-mid June.

I went to the Burnhamthorpe and Mavis one.

I ordered last Friday some new mats (mine are foam and basement flooded, yay mold), pull up bar and TRX from Fitness Depot for in store pick up and haven't heard a word yet. Otherwise I have a pretty sweet little home gym set up.

I hate seeing all the ads online of people gouging others at $3+/lb on used ****. Someone was trying to sell a bar for $400. **** is wack.

So will you guys trickle back to the gyms for the social aspect, change of equipment, variety or will you save that $100 a month and just keep working out at home??

I’m def not going back. With work and FIFO life it’s not worth it. Plus I can do 95% of what I want with the stuff I have at home.
Gym was fun before the kids as it takes 2 hours at least with travel to do a proper workout.

EDIT: This just popped up on my FB feed and had to share...very tempting to sell my entire home gym at these prices (if it's anywhere near what he gets). Comments were just shut down as the guy was getting ripped to shreds for the pricing.

What kind of setup do you have? I'm considering the TRX actually. I figure they would come in useful as most likely the gym will be shut down at camp when we go back.

haven't had a gym membership for a few years but $100 sounds expensive to me, what kind of gym are you going to?

My wifes brother was thinking about signing his family up for a fancy gym in vaughan at $150/mo/person. Frig me. What a waste. That business is going to be hurting now. Cutting over $100/mo/person out of your gym budget while losing almost nothing is an easy fat trim for people.
