Standup wheelie down the 403.

It boggles my mind at how ignorant some people can be.

Have you ever pulled a wheelie? If not, how do you know it's dangerous? Because of the crash videos all over YouTube? But hey, super cars crash all over YouTube too, does that mean they're dangerous?

Also, did you notice the wheelie was being held at traffic speed and NOT something ridiculous like Ghost Rider's 200km/h wheelies? ....And did you know wheelies get you into massive **** on tracks?

To conclude, how often have you personally seen a rider doing a wheelie and causing an accident vs. a driver not paying attention and causing an accident? You do realize the rider is still looking straight and paying attention to his balance, control, etc. right?

I don' think what the rider did was smart behaviour...but overreactions are overreactions.

amen

Didn't Mosport ban wheelies after some doofus killed himself while popping a victory wheelie?

They should ban motor sports just to be on the safe side.

Everything else aside, no, this is absolutely not what tracks are for.

No kidding do that on the track and you get black flagged and have to sit out

Not to mention one time I was at TMP waiting for my session, some pro on a GSXR loops a wheelie on the straight and smashes his engine cover spilling oil all down the straight...Made so much mess they decided to just end the day early and I didnt get to ride again because of him...

No lol

I don't really get why people do it, considering that longevity is sacrificed. If the machine was purely a track or stunt machine I guess I could understand.

520 is more then big enough for a 600 sport bike, in fact Kawasaki ZX6R's come stock with 520.....Anything larger on my bike would be a conversion from 520 to a larger chain and sprockets....

Larger chains are stronger but they are also more expensive, so its give and take because your not getting more life for free your paying for it...

And also a high end 520 chain will actually have a higher tensile strength then the cheap OEM 525 or 530 that come on stock bikes in alot of cases

Now for stunt and track riders, most companies stock larger selection of sprocket sizes in 520, so they are easier to get fast without having to wait for a custom 525 or such to be made...99% of chain and sprocket installs I do are 520

Thanks for the clarification. I'll be looking to do a conversion once I need to change the chain, not for wheelies of course lol

Most of the power on a modern sportbike is up high, clearly where you're not going to spend a lot of time. The 520 makes them more fun for street riding as you have more useable power.

Lol no. 520 chain with same sprocket sizes wont be noticeable.

I think you're referring to the gearing, you can change the pitch from 525 to 530 to 520 etc, but if you keep the same tooth count there will be no difference.

Stock gearing on my 750 is 17/45 and stock pitch is 525.
If I only changed the pitch to 520, there will be no difference at all in terms of acceleration.
I went with the most popular -1/+2 (16/47) sprocket/gear change and it was the best mod I have done to my bike, period.

"520" or the "520 conversion" is just short form for the mod that Mina has listed above (-1 +2). Don't do the mod while you're all 420 :)

This guy was putting people at risk? This guy with like 50m in front of him, a clear lane beside him, going in a straight line on a vehicle that has half the stopping distance and twice the maneuverability of anything else on the road? Compared to the stupid, lazy people who sit in the passing lane, or the middle lane thinking they can ignore their surroundings if they just put it in cruise and hope for the best? Some people think that being passive entitles them to some kind of award for their conscientious pussiness.

This guy doing the wheelie was in control of his vehicle. You can't say that about anyone else on the road at the time. That weak kneed fart catcher on CityTV wasn't even bothered by it, he was pretending to be shocked and outraged just so they could put something interesting on their tawdry, low-rent intern factory with a broadcast license.

A collision requires at least two people making mistakes. If you can't anticipate a motorcycle flying over the guardrail, you are not paying attention either.

Because a 100+ kph object traveling at you over a guardrail when you are doing 100+ kph as well is easy to avoid, by the time you see it it might be only 50 feet away.

I can't throw a hardball 200 kph, but you think you could dodge a fastball from a MLB pitcher from 50 feet away? And granted they aren't even throwing that fast, and the ball is smaller so easier to avoid than a motorcycle.

What a completely idiotic thing to say...... wow!

I think I just found a new sig worthy quote, thanks!

The sentence is funny but there is a LITTTTTLLEEEE bit of truth behind it.

Watch some of those crashes on YouTube, you can see them coming due to the completely awkward lines and lean angle. On the other hand, if you've got a bike flying at a guardrail at 3x the speed limit...that's like a bee hitting your visor, you can't react.

Then again, I don't know how much truth there is to that sentence because I've never had to dodge a flying bike lol However, that chain collision on 404 involving some car flipping over shows that dodging might actually be kinda hard.

Come on thats unreasonable. Can't expect me to doge bikes while I drive home super drunk.

Because there isn't usually traffic during the day......... I mean it's not like you have to watch out for other motorists when swerving to avoid a hunk of metal flying around unpredictably.

I find it sad that there are people here stupid enough to suggest that dumping a bike on the highway is not that big of a deal.
