Spirited Group Rides...

^ There are some riders who ought to be ashamed of themselves.

They need to smarten up. Ride as if the center line is a center wall. If you can't stay within your own lane, slow down so that you can.

There are certain corners where the line that I take through the corner is at the extreme outside edge, because of the uncertainty (and invisibility) of what might be coming in the opposite direction. Hardly the fast line through the corner, but it is necessary.

Curious as to what roads are these and when do they do these rides so i can avoid the roads :lmao:

The above pictures have been taken from "local" riding roads :angry3:
And this is what happens when people try to keep up, or ride beyond their means...

a picture is worth a thousand words

Seriously. What the hell is the point of these types of rides? Let's go to some back country roads and go at least double the speed limit? For what? What are you trying to prove?

Animal jumps out on the road? Dead.
Cop catches you? Metaphorically dead.
Gravel on road in turn? ****ed.

There are so many things that could go wrong I just really do not see the point.

If you want to go fast take your bike to the track.
Thank you mother.

Rhetorical? What the hell is the point of these rides?

The point is obvious, OP. Some people like to ride fast and they're not particularly worried about police... they get a rush, they feel comfortable riding at those speeds, and for them it's fun. People do stuff they enjoy.

Sometimes people do dumb **** like going 3x the limit but hey, different strokes for different folks.

Did you know there's a group of people in the US that refuse to walk to drive across bridges due to fear they'll collapse? That, to me, is 10x weirder than people buying a purpose built SS bike and riding it hard.

The only thing I dislike is people bringing heat on everyone by blowing through little towns and villages at triple the speed limit.

Other than that, everyone's breaking the law, whether by 10km or 100km. So it just becomes subjective.

Yeah, I agree... some people are smarter about where they speed than others... everyone speeds outside towns/cities, but when you keep going at 120-130 through these little villages with 50km/hr limits, you're really asking for it.

Alright, just to get some stuff out of the way.

I know this kid, shooting wtvr, I've been on rides with him.

None of us ever told him to speed up, no one told him to take risks, if anything we always tell new riders (since he's a first year rider) NOT to follow if we go too fast for them, we wait for slower riders at turns, so no pressure.

Maybe he shoulda stayed in the 250 cruiser he had at the beginning of the year. Or maybe staying off the Calabogie track would also be a good idea (where he managed to run wide and off track) yes, on a parade lap. There's a video, it's pretty funny. Ott-motorcycles.ca http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kxn_QSBoZeU ... yep, that's him on the red honda.

Perhaps doing the 511 Tatlock Ottawa run is too much... yet he continually keeps coming back.

If you want to ride, then ride and STFU, if I ride with someone that makes me feel unsafe, guess what?... I don't go back.

Thats whats wrong with today's society, It's always "I'm a victim.... someone owes me apologies... cater to my needs... It's not my fault"

Grow up.

I would have to agree with Zoloo. I am an Ottawa area rider who frequents this forum for information and was shocked to see this. I was involved in said ride that the OP is refering to.
Right from the get go when everyone met up in the morning people were told to ride your own pace and don't do anything that makes you feel uncomfortable. They were told that there would be stopping points for people to catch up.
All of the riders who rode at a "spirted" pace are seasoned riders who know the roads extremely well and rode in a controlled manner. To the OP it may have seemed that we were reckless due to his lack of experience. We weren't even breaking a sweat, and never once crossed any centre lines or did anything to jeapordize the safety of other motorists on the road at the time.
Sure, our pace may have seemed a little quick to him, but the majority of us on the ride are mature riders who value our safety as well as the rest of the pack.

To OP grow a set of balls and post this on the Ottawa motorcycle forum and not on the Toronto forum where you can hide behind anonymity.
And oh yeah.... that was pretty hilarious of you running wide on the parade lap at Calabogie. You were following an instructor at a controlled pace and on a controlled racing line and you still managed to go off track.

Maybe you should give up riding on two wheels if that is how you feel and get a four wheeler as you seem more adept at going off roading.

This response...ouch lol

Was this the ride that I showed up to? My first ride ever in the area? Not knowing what corner was next etc? Dude... and by dude I mean the OPer... That was not a spirited ride.. That was very sedate, no shenanigans and very well led... Maybe you need to stick by your loansome (doing 0-60 runs at night on public highways then posting up the videos on youtube to be ironically LOLed at when you try and start a safety Nazi thread...Honestly... The best post in this entire abortion is by the one guy who mentioned "the pace.." IMO this is the best way to enjoy the spirit of motorcycling on the street... It's a completely different animal than track riding, but can be quite fun while mitigating danger and the public nuisance factor (all of which happened on that ride, CBR500 guy!) If it was a spirited ride then only thing you would have seen would have the WAAmbulance on its way to pick up a headstrong squid, or an angry cop about to assrape you for all the things he couldn't get the main pack for! LOL

I got my license last year.

lol. I never claimed to be a victim. I left the ride halfway through. I never claimed anyone told me that I had to go faster, and I rode my own pace the whole way. Yeah, I did run wide on a turn on the track, felt I was going to fast though that turn, saw an exit and took it. Do you want me to lie about it? It was completely my fault. Not going to dispute it.

And I never had a 250 cruiser?

Again... I never said anyone told me to ride faster. Not sure where you are getting this information from. And I'm sorry, but going 3X the speed limit is asking for trouble.

Also, I never referenced the specific ride, or even that it was about a specific ride, and was talking about spirited rides in general.

Anyone who tells you group riding is smart should give their head a shake bro.. It's about getting out there and riding.. your own ride.. Trust me though.. Odds are you have never been on a spirited ride! hehe You seem like a nice guy so I won't carry on too much lol My suggestion? spend your gopro and sd card budget on riding courses and track days :-)

GTAM always delivers!!!

You guys need to relax and just ride? No need for all this BS and drama over nothing.

If you ride fast ride fast, if you're newer and prefer to ride slower find guys who ride at your pace. Simple as that.
