Spirited Group Rides...

To tell you to worry about your own riding before others?
To tell you not to worry about things you can't control?
To remind all to ride their own ride.

You can go on a million spirited rides. Only one hand has control of the throttle on your bike.

that's all up to you and all you should worry about.
 
I think part of the problem is that everyone's definition of "spirited" is different.

To a guy who's been riding for 3 months its a whole different meaning to a guy who's been doing it for 20 years

Ride your own ride and move out the way when someone's coming up behind you

And then there's "spirited" involving not slowing down for corners but keeping speed down on straightaways (generally my style), versus 280 km/h on straights with heavy use of brakes and park it in the corners (wrong-kind-of-attention getting ...), versus 280 on straights AND as fast as possible in corners (belongs on the race track).

My only "problem" with people who ride balls out on the road is their crashes causes my insurance to go up every year; in effect, I have to pay for someone elses irresponsible act. In that light, I can understand the OP.
 
There are 3 kinds of spirited group ride.

A) Below your comfort level, can be pretty boring.
B) At your comfort level, can be quite good, depending on who's in the pack.
C) Above your comfort level, not very fun.

If a ride isn't at your level, get off. I suggest that riders have GPS so they don't feel an urgency to stay with/keep up due to a fear of getting lost. Don't like, it, bugger off and do your own thing.
 
Good post mike, but screw the GPS. If you've managed to get thru life thus far you should be able to get home. enjoy your ride

No, I was making a point about how opinions are best kept to oneself when the opinion lambastes others without cause. I do think this thread is stupid though.

It was done in order to start a discussion, which evidently, not many people here are capable of doing. And if you think that my OP is lambasting others then you should probably not be on the internet.
