Speed Kills Your Pocket Book

Your logic is flawed when it comes to the 407.

I see people driving "distracted" all the time on the ETR. On top of that, it is no different than the 401 when it comes to this.
When it comes to accidents on the 407 they are quite serious or fatal in most cases due to the increased speeds. The reason for less traffic or congestion is because its a "tolled" highway.

Sorry but sending an "email" isnt going to change any speed limits anytime soon.
I guess you and I drive the 407 at different times, its a nice editorial statement that one of yours but the fact is that because people are driving faster, they are paying more attention, that is a fact from my observation and ... logic.

I remember saying this
I know you will say that there is a lot less traffic on the 407, however funny enough is the only time i see any traffic is when someone decides to drive the speed limit on the fast lane or even on the far left middle lane.
but I guess you also haven't noticed that

I would like to see the accident statistics on the 407 compared to the 401, yea the one accident once in a while may be more dangerous but WTF does that have to do with ridiculously low speed limit of 100 km/h on this HWY

By the way, let's organize the traffic you see on this pic, let's move everyone traveling less than 120 to the first 3 right lanes and leave space for anyone traveling above 120 on the left lane, voila, we have consistent traffic flow and no danger to anyone.

Now add a couple of 100 k/h driver to the fast lane and a bunch of people changing lanes to try and drive around the posted speed limit drives and cluster **** is formed and people are in a lot more danger.

If your want to make change, start by changing your driving/riding habits. If no one speeds then they will not get that desired money, and the road will be safer. The problem with raising the speed limits is people will just drive 20 kmh faster then that posted limit, eventually it becomes too dangerous.

it has been proven many times that changing speed limits doesn't automatically mean people will just go faster if the limit is raised.

your statement is not entirely true.

No, no he did not.

Actually ma'am, I did.

Still have my own opinion of drivers on the 400 series, hence why I said I wouldn't sign the petition.

You can go sign it if you want/believe it's the right thing.

Meh, your observations and my first hand knowledge of what happens on the ETR are split.

At this point, ill agree to disagree. Not in anyones lifetime on this board will you see the speed limit be increased, but email away to whomever.

Email sent...don't have much hope either, but action is better than no action. One guarantees no change, the other atleast opens up the possibility.

Everyone who's infallable first hand experience says increasing the speed limit will be dangerous, please note that the video described a study done with a sample size of 1.6 Million cars that says otherwise. I would take some science and statistics over anecdotal evidence any day of the week.

Thanks, I don't have any hope neither but ....

Until the system is changed for getting a drivers license, everything downstream are band aid solutions.

They KNOW the speed limit can be increased safely.
Remember the Government wants a lot of you to get frustrated fromt he traffic and use the transit system.

Proven how?, where?. Not here.

Alberta. Lived there for 8.5 years. Highways are 110. Everyone generally cruises at 120-125. Same as here but without the congestion issues we have. I was on the 407 this morning. Got to sit behind a four lane slow race of retards doing exactly 100. That isn't safe and it what starts causing the issue.

Also as said, no action means no change. Signing this may not help either but it's worth a little effort. Maybe one day it will change.

I lived in Alberta and when I drove there, if I did 120, 125 on the yellowhead I was being past as if I was standing still.

What's wrong with that?
If the speed limit is 120 km/h and you are not in the left passing lane then what is the problem.
Those ppl will get a ticket, not you.

Some of these positions makes me ponder if this is the kind of stuff that was bantered about when the car was starting to come on the roads with the horse and buggies:lmao:

Those are the people that will cry to raise the limits, eventually there an end to it. The limits here are fine, why is everyone in such a rush, just leave earlier lol

Add up that time sitting in traffic for:
1. regular person getting around (if you are saving 40+ hours per year) that is 1 extra week to do something else besides sitting in traffic

2. business - move products faster

3. fuel costs - a car and truck starting and stopping in slower traffic

4. environmental impact - the longer a car is on the road the more CO2 it dumps and more fuel it burns to go nowhere

Just a few ideas

We should LOWER the speed. 80km/h tops. That will reduce accidents and keep everyone moving at a reasonable speed all the time. Right now, we might be able to go 100km/h, but people can't handle it and they get in accidents. That slows the traffic down a lot more than having 80km/h speed limit.

Yeah! I agree! We should lower the speed limit to 20km/h so that even if they do collide, minimal damage is done and no one would die.
