Some Service Ontario locations closing

Canadian Tire provides a pretty crappy customer service experience on most things now, actually. Their return policies have become stupid and their website and everything else IT related is a gong show. The kid at the parts counter asked me if my old Chevy Aveo was automatic or manual transmission once when I asked for the part number for wiper blades. It's sad that one of the few actual Canadian chains out there can't get this right.
Staff is entirely separate for SO. Normal crappy CT customer service would have minimal effect (probably SO staff would be ****** at all the questions regarding CT merchandise as they were the easiest to find person with a pulse).

Probably the same outcome if Staples folds up shop in Canada completely

If? My money is on when. Was by the one close to me today going to the Waterdown Wally World box mall. The only vehicles but one in the lot were at the far curb (employees). The one in town is a bit busier. I don't see them staying in Canada.

SO agents didn't make much per transaction either. Gross for a sticker renewal was very low single digits. Take all the expenses out and there isn't much left over.
I have not proof to argue my point but I would think that if the profits were small (for the independent owners ) then they wouldn't operate the "stores" for as long as they did. For some families, it was decades and in some cases multiple locations.

But I guess those families didn't grease the DoFo Palms enough.

I originally thought that it was some big outfit that was running them all across Ontario. No wonder so many opened and closed here over time. When I was in Toronto we used to do as much as possible at the machine under the Royal Trust Tower, now it's online, although anything tricky is worth having a human complete it.

So no remuneration to 11 SO offices closed…but one private one gets 18 months rent paid…

Sounds like local Staples pulled out, and the existing owner didn’t let themselves be steamrolled and dicked about…

While good for that owner…we are now paying rent for 18 months for who knows what reason…

I live in Brantford. I just had to go all the way to Downtown Hamilton to get my hunting license because that's the closest Service Ontario for Fishing and Hunting services.
It took 24 minute after checking-in to be called. It then took about 20 minutes to process the course certificate and everything else that was needed. Not as bad as I expected, but I took time off work and went at 10am in hopes it'd be faster before the lunch crowd.
It seems that everything the government touches is a hassel. I can't see these Staples kiosks improving anything. It'll likely mean longer lines with less services offered, rather than improving services by offering more services in fast-growing population.
