Soccer/football thread 2022

I'm not a soccer fan but I watched it as my other half and her family are soccer nuts. Was a shame for Canada in this one as they were the better team for almost the entire game. I hated to see us get so many balls in front of the net with no shots. Again I don't know soccer but stop trying to settle the ball before you kick at the net because every time they did this (often) it got taken away or partially touched.

They just need a decent finisher. Their work effort was huge. They were hungry and fast. Scoring a goal with a genetically extended world class freak of a goalkeeper in front of you is incredibly difficult.

Well...not the result we wanted, but wow what a performance. We belong at this level as we showed today. Bring on Hrvatska

Yup. Unlucky on the penalty and a few in-the-box chances. But they showed a level of class.

Sadly losing means they now cannot afford another loss if they want to move to the next round.

I watched the Canada game after work and holy crap…those lads were giving their all!

If they keep playing like that did today they may have a shot at advancing.

Good observation @hardwkr13 One-timers are sometimes an option in soccer. And they look amazing when they work, but often end up in a shot that slices away or blast way over the net. Ball control is key, but in front of the opponents goal, you have to move it quick!

Well that was a nice goal. Unfortunately for the rest of the game they looked like a school soccer team.
I am not a fan of soccer/football by any means but even I think they were lucky to get away with only 4 against. I dont think the F Croatia helped them much either.

At least Canada is now rid of the 'never scored a World Cup goal' thing
