So who's out there riding taking chances ?

Had great feedback on my earlier post:

Selling Frenzy

Makes me wonder how many riders are electing to forego insurance. When I look back at my half century years of riding, I had a few accidents but no-fault ones. I am however concerned with the bicycle guys on the country roads that can't keep in a straight line. My old R1 buddy always passed them too close almost touching their handle bars. So stupid.

I do suspect that when I hear the go-fast guys revving up after midnight that there aren't no insurance coverage on those bikes.

Anyone know of such ?

I'd bet the wheelie warriors I saw without plates were uninsured. In my foolish youth I carefully drove an unlicensed uninsured dune buggy around the block.

Non vehicular, I came back from a US trip and found out my travel insurance was invalid. Four days after I got back I spent four days in hospital with a pulmonary embolism. Cost here was $35. Down there X 2000.

Insurance is a love hate thing.

A lot.... I think its pretty telling when accidents happen and they don't get away how often people are uninsured. That is way too big of a risk for people who actually have assets. Horrible idea.

Riding dirty is a by-product (but only a small part) of the usury insurance costs in the province.
Gangstah lifestyle isn't limited to motorcycles, I'm certain a lot of the import cars with the stupid spoilers and fart bomb mufflers are in the same category.

As someone who works in insurance, people dont understand how royally ****** you can get if you lose control of your uninsured bike and, say, hit a high earner like a doctor who's on the sidewalk who cant work for the rest of their life

These new automated license plate readers should help to minimize the "dirty" riders or drivers

Don't stop these people, because that could lead to a chase........., but send them a notice in the mail that their vehicle (picture of same + plate) was recorded at a certain location / date / time. Indicate that current records reveals no valid registration, operator license / suspended license / no insurance etc....... (whatever) and give them 5 - 10 days to respond.

No response........... go to their residence at 4 AM, seize the bike or car and any other vehicle(s) found there in a similar "dirty" state and make them pay through fines, seizures, storage and other penalties to get them off the road.

People drive "dirty" to save money. Make it expensive and we'll reduce their numbers.

Most don't have a plate. Makes them a little difficult to track down without pulling them over.

Can’t take blood from a stone?

People ride dirty because of entitlement. Take away their freedom and it will reduce numbers.

Judgments never go away I'm told. So 20 years later ex-punk lucks into a good job and his paycheck gets garnisheed. Or the money he inherited gets snatched away.

He could marry a chick and she pays for a house. The creditors say it's shared assets and grab his share.

He might be allowed to own a beater car if he needs it for work.

Patience is a B****

OK, so have police do stop checks at places where riders congregate and if an officer sees a bike without a plate then immobilize it by locking the front or rear wheel (or stick a knife into the tire to deflate it, OK with me) and deal with it.

I live in the Burnhamthorpe / Winston Churchill area of Mississauga and there is a Timmies on Dundas by the 403. All summer long we hear bikes and cars racing around to 3 - 4 in the morning, including cars drifting in the Ridgeway / Unity industrial area. They are there for 15 - 20 minutes, and then they move on. Not rocket science to corral these people and make them pay for my interrupted sleep.

A motorcycle parked with no plate is not illegal?

The police already know the spots. No plate is rare, stolen or invalid plate is more common.

Hey I live there too!
I had no idea you could hear me though…

An unplated vehicle can be parked anywhere the property owner allows. Police can however go onto private property to ticket a vehicle with an invalid plate.

A truck owner wasn't using a vehicle they bought but never plated. To keep it from looking abandoned they stuck an old plate on it. A cop noticed it had a car plate and ticketed it. With ALPR it's easier.

If the younger crowd that still live in their parent's basement and get fed lots of cheese think they have nothing to lose in the way of riding with no insurance, here's a good one.

A family formally next to me had an underaged kid that crashed the family car into a house. He was charged and would have had an extensive record (and future insurance issues) unless the parents admitted that he stole the car. Being a minor he got off with a wrist slap.

Well guess who the insurance company went after for cost recover...the parents. Their lawyer advised the family to sell the house and move any financial assets to other family members oversees. The mom was a head nurse at Credit Valley hospital and the father jointly owned an HVAC company. The insurance company came after them for costs so they ended up quitting their jobs and renting a place in the Town of Virgil. Last I heard they moved back to the Azores.

Hmm, what would I have done to that kid.

I live close at Dundas and Credit Woodlands. Super easy to catch the middle of the night a$$hats. 4 cruisers at Credit Woodlands, a few hiding just west of the Credit River, when they bomb down they see the cruisers, turn around, and the ones hiding block them from going back.

But someone needs to care enough to do it.

On that note:

Although, are there any six digit motorcycle plates? This person was a moron. The fake isn't great and a cop should have easily been alerted to the shadiness. It may even be car size. They definitely used a car plate template.
