So it's that time again....winter pasttimes?

Getting them sorted in a tub would be easy. Little bottle not much.

Oddly enough stuffing a whole graveyard inside a bottle was easy.....
The taller stone on the right is supposed to be the tombstone of the "coming to get you Barbara" scene from Night of the Living Dead**

** You can tour that cemetery (as we have) in Evans City PA.

I was shown how to do the "ship in a bottle " trick by a former POW who made them litterally out of trash and was allowed to sell them to make a few bucks to buy razor blades and such .

for those that havent seen how you do it , you make the ship and pre assemble the masts and sails and lay them all flat , having checked it will go through the bottle neck, then pulling a single string that would be the forestay on a real boat , the masts ect magically stand up and its a ship in a bottle. Its actually pretty cool to see,

I've read a number of books about SIBs. Depending on the ship and number of masts there could be quite a few strings to pull and sort.
All my masts pivot at the deck on a "U" shaped staple. Some books recommend that the mast be cut 1/2 way thru and then you can fold it over being careful not to snap it off. The staple method just makes more sense to me.

So you guys are saying these boats in bottles are NOT assembled with Tony tweezers….wtf

Upgraded my snow shoes since my old ones started having bindings issues. Got some spare sets to up the supply when friends come to visit.

Upgraded my old cross country skis

Have my downhill skis serviced

Just need to mount the ice tires on the bikes

I put the 3 sleds up for sale.

Interesting. I don't have a smoke or CO in the garage. All the ones in the house are linked but don't tell me which one triggered the alarm. I'm not convinced I'd hear one going off in the garage (if it wasn't linked to one inside) if I was in a bedroom.
If you have vehicles in the garage a smoke/CO may not be the best option due to false alarms. You can get heat detectors that will interface with the smoke alarms in the house.

Where do you play on ice? I have a bike set up but real good venue.

I have a small metal lathe and had that bad habit of slowing the chuck down with my hand when I turned it off.
One of the jaws caught my wedding band and luckily it only scared the shite out of me. No longer wear the ring. Will get it inked on instead of one these days.

As for winter my 1980 Kawi Invader 440 just needs gas and maybe a pop rivet fix for the rad shroud (frick what is with me and kawi rad shroud trashing).
There's a new sohc project on the bench to putter with.
About 3 wooden boat models I should finish not to mention I built about 4 minature wooden sailboats with folding masts that I really must try and finally get into bottles.
And since I'm retired there's the Monday morning coffee, and Wednesday afternoon matinee both of which are just excuses to drink and smoke weed.....View attachment 58713
Nice! I stopped building model airplanes when I found out that for the same money I could build a small boat and actually go for a ride.

A shut in buddy builds boats from kits and again, I could build a ful size something else for what he pays for a Dumont. They are nice though.

I agree when the other rider is a rockstar. Going down and being run over by another bike with mad max tires doesn't seem like a fun afternoon.
True

However with a 450 and a 125 cc... passing at some point does occur. Although the laptimes between the 2 are actually very similar on the pond.

And the speeds on a pond are not equal to a lake. Crashes are usually a couple feet slide.

I trust your kids far more than I trust myself. It is interesting that the laptimes are that close with the huge power difference. I assumed that high traction plus high power would dominate. Does the 450 bend the lugs so the studs don't bite as hard?

On the pond it's almost all leaned over with very little throttle. Being over zealous with the 450 throttle has resulted in exits from the pond surface with recovery efforts.

But even rockstars find limits

I've got a couple of leather projects that I need to finish (a top hat and a shoulder piece for a burlesque performer friend, down south), and I'll likely be making a few more hats before Winter is done. I also have the pattern cut out for another Plague Doctor mask and want to make myself a shoulder-slung briefcase at some point. Then there's the practice bow that I want to make (out of PVC pipe with leather wrap) to go with the quiver I made a while back, because I'm way out of shape and need something with a lighter pull to build the muscles again. Maybe I'll make a pair of Medieval style boots to go with my gambeson and armour. I'm never without a project.

Say what? You build boats!? This I gotta see!

Don’t go look , that’s how it starts . You end up with a 30ft boat in the side yard you’ll finish to take you to the Caribbean. 19 yrs later and 72grand in , your kids will offer free to anyone that can move it .

( I’m having one trucked up from Sarnia) guy allegedly had 30k spent on an e drive engineered system , in a 1972 sailboat, about 3x the value of the boat .

It’s a sickness , stay away from boats

Always love seeing your work around this time of year when these threads post up! Awesome work!
