Smoking pot in a condo

if you can't smell food whatsoever i dont think hes smoking it from his apartment.. because its so potent throughout the hall i think he smokes it in the stairwell of your floor . . . cuz yeah when you smoke up in the stairwell it gets into the hallway pretty good :P

Can you add to the note "Please post on GTAM the name of your dealer" thank you

maybe there's a grow-op on the floor, and if you post a real nasty note in the elevator, so everyone in the building can read, they might get so stoned and fall off their balconey and fix the problem for you. they would get real paranoid.

So here's my problem. I have a neighbour on my floor that smokes pot in their unit. I can't smell it in my unit but the second the elevator doors open you're hit in the face with it. I'm a pretty liberal guy and I really don't care if someone wants to smoke pot but the smell is pretty powerful. Again, I'm not passing judgement at all, I just don't think it gives a great image and obviously isn't good for re-sale (I am planning on selling in the near future). What should I do? so far I've thought about the passive aggressive elevator note as I don't want to knock on a door and accuse someone, or contacting the condo board. I don't want to call the police because 1) I'm not that big of a prick and 2) they won't do anything anyway. I really don't think that I'm being over sensitive about this because I don't want to lose out on potential resale value because someone is too lazy to stand on their balcony, but who knows......maybe I am.

The police don't really have the resources or the time to pursue matters like this if it is just a single casual user. On the other hand, if you were to observe evidence of trafficking or if there anything to suggest that the smoker is linked to a larger operation, the police may be interested.

I attended a neighbourhood watch meeting recently and the police sergeant made some interesting points. First, he said, the police are stretched very, very thin. Two, most petty crimes are committed by people who have very difficult lives. Most of them are transients and most will end up either dying at an early age or they move on because they can't afford the rent. If someone is smoking marijuana a lot, it is very unlikely that they will be able to continue to work or otherwise keep body and soul together. In short, it may not be a problem for much longer. These kinds of problems have a way of sorting themselves out with no need for intervention.

This is at a condo not a half way house. People that smoke up all from all walks of life not just people with difficult lives or soon to be homeless people...

It's guys like you that make pot smokers look smart.
Are you serious dude?
You don't think he can tell the difference between someone burning a joint or fresh weed growing?

Maybe it's the security guard smoking it in the stairwell, the OP doesn't even know if it's a tenant or not.
If you want to get technical, maybe somebody is smoking weed near the intake vents of the building, ever consider that?

Wasted (lol, sorry, have to laugh at your username again) just put an anonymous note on the wall across from the elevator on your floor, > "attention pot smokers, please try to keep your smoke contained so it doesn't stink up the hallways, thanks dude!"

End of story.

Meanwhile, some kid just died from taking prescription drugs or alcohol somewhere.
To all the haters, give your damn head a shake and open your simple, narrow minds.

Maybe there is a slope on the building and the smoke is actually coming from another building :agave:

I believe you've seen far too many after-school specials.

I actually don't smell it in the elevator. It's not until the elevator doors open, then it's a really strong smell lingering in the hallway

ah, ok, i misread your post...if you are smelling it in the hallway, then having a chat with property management or concierge should be in order. if you are not smelling anything else than pot, then he might be smoking in the stairwell or smoking in his unit and walking down the hallway doing trash or something while still smoking...i already reemed one person out for doing this on our floor, i have little love for renters in our building, it's like lecturing 5 year olds...they can smoke in their units, but in common areas it is a no-no...we all gotta get along...

who cares what he or she does in there own home, pot, weed whatever its in the own confort of there home.......suck it up ;)

You forgot butt sex, expected more of you

Honestly, I don't care in the slightest what people do in their units. it's none of my business. Does the smell really have an impact on my day to day life? No, not really. It's less than a minor inconvenience. I have a small issue with the fact that it's a little embarrasing to have visitors come over and have it smell like a college dorm room, but whatever, I can deal with that. Now, when there is a potential that it could cost me money in property value......that's where I have an issue.

Some of the people you know are pot smokers, they just haven't told you yet.

I think that what I'll do is draft a very non accusatory note and ask them to just consider the other people on the floor. I think that it's 100% reasonable that the person smoking has no idea that it is so noticeable outside of their own unit.
I completely agree that they likely don't realize. I'm not trying to be a dick about it.....just come to a neighbourly resolution.

Agreed. I've been doing the deed living next door to my land lady in my apartment for over the past year. Our hallways also ALWAYS smell, but more so of cigarette smoke. If you can communicate it to the smoker, just recommend they place a towel at the bottom of their door, and maybe even the mailbox slot if they have one. Keeps the smell in the unit and out of the hallways, and no one has to compromise.
