Smoking pot in a condo

So here's my problem. I have a neighbour on my floor that smokes pot in their unit. I can't smell it in my unit but the second the elevator doors open you're hit in the face with it. I'm a pretty liberal guy and I really don't care if someone wants to smoke pot but the smell is pretty powerful. Again, I'm not passing judgement at all, I just don't think it gives a great image and obviously isn't good for re-sale (I am planning on selling in the near future). What should I do? so far I've thought about the passive aggressive elevator note as I don't want to knock on a door and accuse someone, or contacting the condo board. I don't want to call the police because 1) I'm not that big of a prick and 2) they won't do anything anyway. I really don't think that I'm being over sensitive about this because I don't want to lose out on potential resale value because someone is too lazy to stand on their balcony, but who knows......maybe I am.

You shouldn't have to put up with that. It doesn't matter if you're open towards marijuana or not, other people live in the building and they have plenty of other places to go smoke.

I would start with a note in the elevator. If they don't stop after a few days, I would be going to the condo board or Police.

Don't knock on their door. If you do and then they refuse to stop, and you have to pursue further action, they'll know it's you and things will get unfriendly very quickly.

My buddy and his neighbours smoke in their condos all the time and I've never smelled it in his hallway. Maybe narrow it down and leave a note asking the guy to buy rubber seals for the entry door or put a towel down or something. Old building?

My dad lives in a brand new condo and it's the same deal. Someone on his floor smokes and the entire hallway reeks of it at night. It hits you the moment you open the door to the hallway.

Is the neighbour approachable and easy-going or a defensive low life? That would decide my next course of action. Approachable would have me doing a "hey, hi howsit going got a sec"? and explain the issue. Maybe tell him you will give him a heads-up if prospective buyers are swinging by. See where that leads.

If he's a vicious low-life I'm not sure what I would do. Maybe him being stoned is safest for everyone.

Someone else can chime in.

ever thought about changing your GTAM name to " hypocrite "? lol

Touche. I didn't think about that. When I was about 18 I wore a novelty tee shirt with one of those red and white stickers printed on the said "hello my name is wasted" on it and the nickname just stuck lol.

It's a new building and it caught me off guard the first time. You don't really smell a lot of peoples cooking or what have you. I haven't gone down the hall sniffing doors yet so I'm not sure what unit it's coming from but I'm 30' from the elevator anyway and it doesn't dissipate at all as I go down the hall. like I said....it's potent

I dunno..if he's smokin' in his unit..I'd have a hard time justifying saying anything. It's his place..bad enough the government tells us what to do everywhere else in the country. If it's in the common areas, that's different. I hate smokers but I don't get my shorts in a knot if people are smoking outside a building near the door. Like, yeah, it's annoying..but it ain't gonna kill me. I'm waiting for the No Farting In The Elevator signs..cuz I've ripped a few in there!! :-p

I agree.

It cant hurt to ask but ultimately its the guy's house he can do what he wants.

I'm an ex-smoker so I get that 100%. I'm not a whiner and typically let things go, but this is a bit different. We're talking about probably about 100' or more of intense grateful dead concert stink.

I mean, I understand the resale thing..my neighbours are currently parking on their front mud yard..but I'd probably just ask them to curtail their sessions when showings are going on. One problem with condos is you're certainly closer to your neighbours and the potential for conflict is heightened. No point going to war over it..

Here is what you do.
Get an used paper towel roll, bounce sheet and an elastic band.
Cover and secure one end of the roll with the sheet and band, draw a big reefer on the roll and leave it at his door with a note for him to expel his exhausted chronic smoke into the open end of the tube.
Problem solved, no more weed smell ;)

No he can't.
1. its a condo
2. if he wants to play loud music from 2am to 5 am every night... its not he can do whatever he wants.

Pretty sure he can smoke in his unit. Smoke weed? Not really allowed to do that anywhere..but are you going to go to war with your neighbour over it?
